Oh My Goodness (digital OM)

Nice recovery, Olympus. This looks like a winner. They've taken into account the one major drawback I've had with digital: I put the camera to my eye to shoot! Now the only issue is how good is the viewfinder. Most EVF's I've tried wash out in the typical shoot against the sun mode. The Sony A55 can see in the dark, but is blinded at high-noon.

When you add the landscape grip - looks like and FM2n with the motor drive, just a bit smaller.

16MP if it's as good as the G3, then they'll be good to go.

Can take any glass as long as you can deal with 2X crop factor. If they wanted to rule the world, it would be full frame, but that's another universe I guess.

Included flash to add to the hot-shoe will do wireless remote. Take note Nikon, we're sick of having to pay extra for this which is really a basic feature and reason to use digital in the first place.

Looks like the chrome/silver version may even qualify for a camera leather.com upgrade someday. We can only hope.

Price is ok, for a system camera. Now if they would just allow the screen on the back to be rotated closed like the screen on the D5000 (to combat chimping) and I would think I've died and gone to the great afterlife of streetshooting.

I was hoping for that too! FF would've been nice, but weather-sealing in a small package, MF, viewfinder, two dials.. I'm pretty happy as is. Just hope that the sensor lives up to everything else.

I'm sure you can just disable the image preview like you can with most other cameras. The real problem with a tilt-only screen is that it isn't nearly as useful when shooting in portrait orientation.

same boat here, I like a few things about this camera and especially the design...
but no, sticking with Xpro1.

An OVF is an OVF and I want it. I dont care how many megapixels they add or how little lag it might have, I dont want the funky colours or the low dynamic range of an EVF, turning my camera to a person against a bright skyline and all I can see is a silhouette. And OMD's EVF doesnt seem to be the best one around to begin with. I want to see what I'm doing, need an OVF 🙂

Plus the other Fuji things like the marked dial and aperture ring or the clean high ISO, these are things that will actually make a difference to my shooting. On the other hand the OMD has a long list of things I'd have to de-activate or neutralise like the 4:3 aspect ratio, touch screens (wtf 😕), fps, flippable screens etc which is not a big deal but it makes me feel that I'm probably not exactly the target group of this camera, which I know will eventually come back and bite me in the ass in some obsure way that I cant pin point right now...

plus I dont like its shutter sound and it doesnt take soft releases 😀

pretty much the main functionality reason I'm tempted by the OMD is the awesome lens range and particularly the 12/2 because it has a distance scale on it. But the Xpro already has an 18/2 which is pretty much the same thing apart from the distance markings, and a growing lens range that already covers my bases. So no, I'm not gonna cancel my order for a friggin distance scale 😀
 
I see a pen with the current m4/3 sensor, eye level finder built in and weather sealing. Anything else changed?
 
After seeing the engadget video, I kinda want one. It looks really compact and light, but you could use Zuiko lenses on it, plus the way the display swivels forward and not outward (what would be the point in that?), and then the handling and everything… I'm intrigued.
It doesn't bring anything new to the market, I just look at it as a camera that, instead of trying to innovate, goes back to the roots in its designs and focusses on the few things that make a great camera.

If you've ever been caught in a rainstorm while shooting, weather-sealing jumps up in your the priority list.
 
Were the dimensions stated somewhere? How does it compare to an OM-single digit? My only question is if it is too small.

The EM-5 is 3.5 by 4.8 by 1.7 inches (HWD). That's a little smaller than a Pentax ME (3.25 by 5.16 by 1.95) in all but height--that's the camera that it kind of "felt" like to me when I had a hands-on, but I've never shot with a film OM.

An OM-4 is 3.4 by 5.5 by 1.97 inches.
 
Yes, as is the sensor an upgrade.

I have looked at DPReview, but it got very boring very quickly and I thought I might have dropped off and missed something radical.

I have met occasional bouts of inclemency while out with my camera.

I kinda want the silver one. It reminds me of my newspaper's OM-2 that I used the entire time I worked there.

Olympus' announcement about the OM-D came out today. Looks like a camera I'll be getting in the future.

As a fan of Olympus products, it's nice to see the Olympus camera company still in the game and coming out with some seriously innovative products (Maitani lives!), after all the troubles the company's been through recently.

...And yes, I do drink North Korean beer......
