Is it OK to keep my R3A with film winded/shutter cocked when not shooting for a week, or even longer? Or is it important to always release the shutter when not using the camera for a while?

Anders

PS I really hope I got my english right here...🙂 DS

What does the camera manual suggest?

On most mechanical cameras, the manuals state to leave them uncocked if not using them. This is to relax the springs. I end up doing the same with my Cameras with electromechanical shutters out of habit. The manual should state if it is required to leave the shutter uncocked..

My situation is that I have an early R3A with only japanese manual, and a separate english translation. The translation says nothing about this. Only to turn the main switch off to save batteries. I understand that it is better to release than not.

The thing is that the meter wont read without the shutter cocked, and I like sometimes to be able to decide that now it is too dark to shoot more, without having to waste a frame to release the shutter.

It's a real mini thing to worry about, I know, but I WANT TO KNOW 😀

Of course uncoak the shutter is better, but I always forget to uncoak my cameras too ..... I think this is very minor. 🙂

Interesting that your meter won't read unless the shutter is cocked. My Bessa R and Bessa L don't seem to care one way or the other. Of course, with the L, which has that bizarre little potrusion on the film advance lever that slyly creeps under the shutter release button, locking it and preventing inadvertent shutter release, you've got to move the lever a bit forward to get the protrusion free. Then you can meter at will, uncocked.

Anyone know if there is an online English version of the manual for R3A?
