Hello
i own a Leica M240 and an old SUmmilux Leitz Canada my grandfather gave me. 35mm 1.4
I'm wondering if it'd benefit from a newer ASPH 6Bit coded Summicron 2.0 35mm ?
just seems a new camera begs for a newer lens. sharper, smoother focus, etc...
thoughts?
or should i just wait and get the newer FLE 6 BIT 35mm 1.4 when i have enough cash?
eric
i've taken nice images with this lens in general:

Hi, i would go for the asph summicron. But the lux has an unquestionable emotional value...

The lux you have is a wonderful lens!
I would keep that and save up for the fle, that's a remarkable lens!

In what way do you think the newer lens would improve your photography?
Until you can answer that, the new lens is a waste of money.
If I REALLY believed I'd get better pics with the new ASPH, I might well buy it. But I don't see how I will get better pics than I get with the 35 Summilux I bought new in about 1984.
Cheers,
R.

I will add to what Roger has said above ... even if I had the cash to buy the ASPH Summicron.

Very nice shots on your site, they have a vintage look to them. If you want a more modern look, then the ASPH will provide it. The 35 lux ASPH, I have the non-FLE one, delivers the crispness and dimensionality associated with current digital-based preferences, especially for landscape and architecture. But I think it's a fool's mission - and I am one - to walk down that Leica upgrade path unless you have a specific need for that look
I doubt you need to hear it again, but fwiw if I had an heirloom Leitz lens, I'd never, ever sell it and I'd shoot it as much as I could. I don't know what you like to shoot, but the old Lux would be wonderful for street shooting at night or wherever you want a more impressionistic, timeless look, especially in sketchy light. I have an older Lux 50 I use that way, both film and digital.
