Old 90mm

Lives in Buenos Aires at the moment, and there you have several Second-hand photo stores, been walking around and found everything between thin 90mm in screwmonts to elmar/elmarit, even a worn out Hector as well (but that was a 135mm)

Since i mostly known with Contax G and Nikon SLR lenses I need some help, my reference lenses is 90mm for Contax G and Nikkor 85mm 1,4 ais, so that is what I´m used to.

Weblinks, user-feedback, thoughts . . everything appreciated.

I know leica has mostly good lenses, but some is better than others . .

If you do not need the speed, the 90mm F4 Elmar is a great, cheap lens. I also have the F2.8 Elmarit., and it is quite sharp. It is sharper than the Elmar, but a good bit more expensive. I do not have a 90mm Summicron, but others here do have it and think highly of it.

Of course, the Nikkor 10.5cm F2.5 and 8.5cm F2 are available in thread mount, both are 1st rate.

As Brian says, if you want speed, look for a 'cron. If you want the focal length, the Elmar is good.

I've had both, the Elmar and 'cron. I liked the Elmar, but since I also like available light shots, I sold it. The 'cron I got comes from Canada, it has a built-in hood and it's tough as nails, yet painfully sharp even wide open. That lens at f4 is a respectable performer! But then, it's pretty heavy.

In 1968 I bought a used 90mm Elmar collapsible, some months later I had saved enough to buy the M4 to go with it (plus a 35mm Summilux f1.4).

I still think that that is a great combination. Light-weight portrait lens plus wideish fast for available light, usually indoors and confined space.

You may still be able to find an old collapsible Elmar, else if price is no object there is now a new 4-element Elmar-M available.
