i bought this book years ago because it's from 1950, the year i was born.
there was a time i was looking for anything from 1950.

anyway, a scan of the cover and one of the inside ads.

It's fun to have things from the time of out beginning. That's why you can walk into fleamarkets and fine National Geographics and Life magazines sorted by year.

BTW: If you run into any Kodak camera with a serial number that starts with
"RY", you will want to buy it. I am thinking Retina II would be a nice 1950 camera.

Joe,

Ain't it great? My mail carrier hates me now - boxes of old magazines, some beginning to get a bit funky, and I'm just now getting them up into a dedicated bookcase. I've just about filled it. My favorites so far are the Popular Photography magazines from the 1960's, and the "The Camera" magazines from the 40/50's. You can trace the rise and fall of camera companies by their ads - it is very cool. I'm having a blast.

Cool scan, by the way! Congrats!

Best Regards,

Bill Mattocks

PS: Oh, and one other thing. It was because of reading these old books and magazines that I became clued about a company called 'Bittco'. They imported lenses and accessories back in the 50/60's. They imported a lens called the 'Super Vemar' (others imported it too) and it is really a Kyoei Super Acall 135mm f3.5. Found a new one on eBoy - no one else knew what it was - so it went for the starting bid - $25. Takes nice photos on my Bessa R! I love the old magazines for the ads as much as for the articles!
