Old, cheap manual 50mm to pair to my Nikon Zf: Nikon, Canon..

one observation: I have the LTM Canon f1.4, which has never let me down. I also have the 5cm f2 Nikkor which is often great, but the Sonnar focus shift is irritating a bit too often.

Great choice! Cosina is doing such great things these days. Ya gotta post pix you made with it. Pix or it didn't happen...

We'll see. I'll wait for the official release and see what the reviews say, that vignetting seems a little too strong at the moment.
But so far, I haven't been disappointed with CV lenses, so this new 50 is a good candidate for my next purchase. And it looks beautiful in my opinion.
Too bad the other compact 50s don't have the focus tab. I know it's possible to attach one, only I haven't seen one that looks right aesthetically speaking.

It will be a bit more than $200! But it should be a fine lens.

One Canon lens that does not suffer from a haze problem- the Canon 50mm F2.2.

I believe Mr. K at Cosina has a soft spot for obscure lenses. This F2.2 lens was made for only 6 months, over 60 years ago.

They used to sell for ~$600, prices are way down. This one was just over $100.

HEY!

Tell Mr. K the original has a Focus Tab!

Thanks for mentioning the Canon 2.2, @Sonnar Brian

As for the new CV 50 2.2, true, it's not going to cost $200 (I think it should be closer to $500).

My reasoning for this choice is that I either find a good used vintage lens (like the Nikkor one) for around $200, or I rather go for a brand-new lens instead. After looking at the Nikkors on eBay and having realized that a decent copy is closer to $280/300, I think in this case, it makes more sense to simply add a little more and get a new CV.

The Canon 50/2.2 that @Sonnar Brian mentioned was a favorite of Colton Allen (aka Swift1, Daiku_San). Long-time members will remember his wonderful work. Sadly, he passed away from ALS in late 2022, but his memory and his photos live on. You can see some of the images he made with the lens here on the forum, and on his Flickr page.

The Canon 50/2.2 is a 5 element in 4 group "Xenotar" type- the second doublet of a classic Double-Gauss 1-2-2-1 is collapsed into a single element. What is different about the Canon, the rear section is huge compared to many Xenons.

Excellent color, good contrast, and some Swirlies.
