Apparently the A36 Summar can also take a 34mm screw-in filter and the A36 Elmar takes a 19mm. Does anyone know what a 35/3.5 A36 Summaron takes? It looks somewhere between the two sizes.

Also, are these all 0.5mm pitch and therefore available new from B+W?

Hi Rogerzilla,

I don't know about the earlier 35mm Summaron; I have the later one which takes the E39 filters. As for the Summar: It takes 34mm filters as you mention. These will also fit the 90mm f4 Elmar (and 135 f4.5 Hektor, I believe). I bought a 34mm UV filter directly from B&W for my Summar a few years back. Never measured the thread pitch.

Best,
David

All the Leica lenses that take the A36 slip-on filters will also take E34 threaded filters, with the exception of the 35mm and 50mm Elmars.
I wouldn't buy a lot of new 34mm filters until you make sure the depth of the filter ring doesn't cause vignetting on the Summaron.

I did a bit more Googling. It seems the Summaron has no threads at all, and what look like threads are just anti-reflection milling.

I think I'll stick to the SOOGZ and a 39mm filter on the Summaron and Summar, but the Elmar really needs a small filter to protect the front element when you're adjusting the aperture (impossible with a SOOGZ).
