First let me say I really enjoy looking at the work many of you have been so kind to upload on this forum. I had an M8 for 3 days and because of problems, retuned it to the seller. Which was just as well because I had always wanted an R-D1. I have a Bessa R3 and the logigal step to digital RF in my heart was the R-D1. I now have one on the way and look forward to it. It was definitely because of seeing so many beautiful images on this forum that I finally made up my mind to go with the Epson. Anyway while I was looking at the M8 forum, by far the best subject for me was "old glass". I have three Leica lens' that definitely fall it that catagory and when I receive my camera I will post. So for those that can, I would love to see some imgaes made with the R-D1 and old glass. Thanks, Steve

I'm sure the cropfactor and the sensor has something to do with it, but I find the R-D1 really gives the old lenses a different character. No/less Leica glow for instance.

Sorry to hear that you had probs with your M8, but good that you have found an R-D1.
I also love the "old glass". The (rather cheap) Elmar 90 and Hektor 135 produce great images on the NEX-7 and one of my favourite lenses, the Summitar 2/5cm, came back from service today
Enjoy your Epson and the old glass, Steve!

M8 problems?

If you don't mind me asking, what type of problems did you have with the M8?

Seller said both batteries (leica brand) were fully charged before being shipped. Battery showed full charge on initial power-up and lasted 20 minutes and then totally dead. Batt indicator went from showing full charge to nothing. Tried 2nd battery and got off a few nice shots, ok except twice it locked up for a couple of minutes when rendering an image. Next day still showing full charge it lasted maybe 10 minutes then nothing. Seller then overnighted a brand new Leica battery and same scenario. Charger light would not come on when I tried to charge the "new" battery. After reading about all the problems on the M8 forum I threw in the towel. It could simply have been three bad batteries and a bad charger but I was done. I didn't remember seeing near as many problems on the R-D1 forum site so I bailed out. Also i see on Epson's site where Epson Japan will support the R-D1s until at least 2016 so i felt safe buying it.
