Well, I had some luck with my last purchase: a RD '53/'54 Leica IIF body.
For quite some time I had a few Leica screw mount lenses around (Elmar 50 and Summaron) but no body, so after some patient and moderate bidding I won this one.

I restored two broken M3's before, so actually my new acquisition was intended too as a new DIY CLA-project for a rainy sunday. But after it arrived it appeared in a much better condition than I expected: externally like new and fully functional, so I left it for a light lubrication and adjustment at my local Leica repairman. He approved that the body was almost never used and internally too in virtually new condition. He even had a new eyepiece cover for it, the only chipped part of the camera.
Now it runs like a Swiss watch again.

Nevertheless I intend to take it out, regularly but carefully, to use it for what it is meant for. In the pic the outfit which I took out today on a long walk to shoot a slide film. The Summaron with the finder work really well on this body!

... and since I'm somewhat challenging the possibilities in CS4's Camera Raw these days, and the limitations of a € 25,- product-photography-home-kit from the local drug store's clearance corner (surprisingly few!) another IIF-pic.
When today's slides provide some presentable results, I'll scan/post them next week.

Ah, the SBLOO and the FOOKH are things of function-makes-beauty.

Sure. The finder was another 'barn find' some time ago: cheap, but very heavy used. There are quite a few scratches in the front glass. But looking through it this hardly disturbs the vision, so it is perfectly useable. The vision is fantastic - like looking to a cinema screen.
The only issue is that it has a very tight fit on the IIF. This needs some attention, but I won't loose it.
Maybe I once find an affordable 50mm example. The standard IIF-finder and my glasses aren't the most perfect combi.

Same with the hoods. Bought them together cheap, in used (no: dirty) condition, to discover afterwards how expensive these mostly are. I think these old lenses need hoods, but I am thinking of cheap (self made?) substitutes as I'm afraid to loose the originals, which indeed work well and look great.
Maybe the coming Dutch Doesburg camera fair brings a proper solution.

Just received my test slide film today. The IIF appears fully useable for slides: exposures are fine and at moderate apertures the Summaron 3,5/35 and Elmar 3,5/50 lenses hardly leave anything to be desired. In the originals sharpness is quite amazing (in these lr-attachments this isn't really visible). Colors are quite mute, in a natural way. I like this set!
