Old lenses on the Leica M8.

As a testing device for lenses the digital M Leicas are unsurpassed.

This is what an uncoated Hektor 50mm f/2.5 from the early thirties produces @ f/2.5.

Erik.

Let me know how the lens on your Avatar works on the M8, when you figure how to mount it. ;-)

Regards, John

The collapsible Summicron 50mm f/2 (here @ f/2) is the sharpest of the lot.

Dear Erik,

I see you have a typical plaything for the 2-4 y.o. on your table, so there are children in your house.
OTOH, you have lenses, which would be too sumptuous for *my *collection* -- which is always touched by my dangerous girl cubs;-)

Please let me ask you: how do you protect your precious, your grown-up playthings? Perhaps, my cubs are remarkably ferocious, but if I'd have such gems, I would need to put them into the gun and rifle cupboard: not my idea of *using* lenses.

It's a bit getting used to. Getting the focus spot on is trial and error.
This bazooka is a bit dodgy in the eyes of the law enforcement.
Never gave me any problems - and it did go through Heathrow a few times.

My boy is eleven years old and he still plays with Lego, as I do myself too. He never touches my photo stuff. He is not interested in it at all.

Nikki first started using my M3 when she was 4. "I want to take a picture with Daddy's Camera".

Name a kid "NIKKI", she sees the M3 and remarks "Daddy, your camera is beautiful." Never said that about the SP and S3, which she also used at 4.

Don't be so sure that it isn't rubbing off on him. It may all come out later.

My father was not an educated man but was very intelligent in his own way. He knew an amazing amount about flowers, plants and shrubs including their Latin names and would often find himself telling people in Garden centres all about the plants that they were selling! He could barely walk down a street without taking cuttings from someone else's garden and loved trips to famous English gardens like Kew.

He passed away a couple of years ago and weirdly I find myself suddenly discovering gardening after ignoring it all my life. Mind you, my style leans more to hunter gathering than aesthetic gardening. I now do the basic home gardening but have also acquired an allotment and grow food like soft fruit and vegetables. Strange thing is that is one area of gardening dad knew precious little about. I don't think he ever grew a carrot in his life although I do recall him growing strawberries which we made jam with, something I still do today.

Anyway, this has bugger all to do with RFFs so I will shut up now.
Thanks for "listening". It felt good to write about him again :)

Dear Johan,

I'm not a moderator, but I mind a bit: the link is useless -- for me at least. Perhaps you don't know: pictures "on the 'other' forum" are only visible for those, who are logged-in there.

I'm sure, your photos are interesting for us, who are logged-in here, so: Please post them here.

Thank you.

Not true; if you are not logged in the images will show up as icons, click the icon and your image program will display them.

Hi and sorry about that... I just wanted to avoid duplicate posts on the two best M8-Forums I know ...
I will post them tonight, when I have access to my Photo-Harddisk, here as well!

Happy shooting

Johan

Not true, the moment you click the icon link and your computer has stored your login information, it will log you in to show the picture. After viewing the picture, you will be logged in.

When without an account to 'the other forum' you are unable to see the pictures, Brian's right.

No; I tried it: I logged out and I stayed logged out after and during viewing. Anyway, it is just a matter of making a quick account.

so, more photos with M8 & old lens... :)

heres one from last weekend, Hektor 135, from mid 1930's.

edit: notice the black specs in photo. they somehow come from lens, although dunno how. lens has usual signs of old age, but to me nothing this obvious. first I thought sensor was dirty when opened the files. it was my first time using the lens.
