Ambitious, but rubbish
I posted this over in the Philadelphia forum, but I think it is interesting to people outside of the region as well, so I am reposting it here.
Just wanted to share a really cool site called http://www.PhillyHistory.org - a project to put the vast photographic archives of the city of Philadelphia online. According to the website, "The City's photo archive contains over 2 million photo records that date from the late 1800's." Of interest to any photo buffs, especially those in our region. You can spend a lot of time here.

Cool site, but I wish the photos were dated and there was a little more description.

All of the photos where the date is known are dated. It may not be displayed at first, depending on how you are viewing. If you are looking through the "Featured Photos" section, you must click on the link at the bottom that says, "more info." That will give you a date, plus a little info such as the location and perhaps a short description of the subject. If you look for photos using the search function, I beleive this info is displayed already. A neat thing to do is search by date, so you can see the oldest pics, and pics from each era etc.
Keep in mind that there are a lot of photos to go through, and of course it is not a heavily funded project.
