old software?

i am about to start the monumental task of cleaning up my living space...and paring down on my stuff in general.
i have some old photo elements software and think i should just bin it with the rest of my garbage.

what do you do with old software?
 
my new fuji needs the newest version of elements...i think. need to check if the newest version will process raw.
but i have some older versions that just sit here.
 
They don't update Elements? I'm on 8 for mac! Works better than ever, strangely. But...... I don't have a Fuji. Thinking about getting one...
 
I have a box, a closet and a shed that is filled with stuff that was once cool, but is now obsolete. Sometimes I look at it and reminisce. When I need more room, it gets tossed in a fifo manner.
 
I still use Elements 2.0, for what I do I prefer it to later ones. Recently bought a copy 2nd-hand for the daughter. Somebody might be glad of whatever release yours is & you could get a few $ for it :)
 
I generally just bin old software, but I carefully review it first.

Sometimes you need to keep old software if you've upgraded it and the new upgraded version's license requires you to still have the old software in order to reinstall and/or re-activate the new upgraded version. Also, your license for the old version is tied to the new "upgrade" version making selling or giving away to old version illegal.
 
A surprising number of computer users actually prefer older software.
Why not offer any photo-related software to RFF members first?
Cheap or free, recipient pays shipping (to weed out freeloaders)...

I hang all the old discs around the chickenhouse to keep Hawks away from our egg layors.
It's the most use you can get out of them once they are orphaned by their authors. :eek:
