Old sonnar (e.g. Jupiter 8) vs modern Sonnar

My 1952 J-8 does not have infinity lock, only the tab and I do believe it is original. It compares to the photos I have seen of J-8 from that vintage.

Hi,

Kievs and Contaxes with the J-8 or Sonnar lock at infinity (and I guess all the others up to 50mm or 85/90) but the locking mechanism is in the camera body and not on the lens. You push down the little tab above and behind the focusing wheel by the wind-on knob.

If you'd like to compare the J-3, Nikkor, and Canon Sonnar clones, I did so here: http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=129340

My take from using all three a lot, for several years, is I like the Nikkor 1.4 best. The close focus mount, the softness available for portraits wide open, the quality and smoothness of the controls, all make it a winner. Second choice, the J-3. Warmer colors.
