older 50mm on M9

Just wondering if the 50mm/3.5 Elmar or the 50mm/2 Summar would fit on an M9, or if there is any way to safely make those lenses compatible with M9's. (...please say that there is a way!)

They should both be fine. I have a Summitar and a Summar and they fit just fine (using M adapters, of course). I do not collapse them into the body, however. Plenty of folks say it's perfectly safe, but I just don't risk it, as it doesn't seem to offer that much convenience versus possible risk.

I use a collapsible Fed lens and a Summitar and both collapse OK .
You need an adapter with half circle cut out for the Elmar - mine is not .

I use this on the M9 now and again - it's an awesome lens. No issues with closing it either...

Be careful of collapsing them.

The Nikkor-SC 5cm F2 may be safely collapsed on the M8.

Some of the earliest Elmars have an 11 o'clock infinity lock. They don't work on M cameras because the lock won't clear the lens release button.

oh, that is good to know--thanks! is it safe to assume that lenses that look like "A" (below) are the older type, and that I should buy the ones that look more like "B"?
