The versatility of a 43mm lens on 35mm FF format is just delightful...

Okay, so this is the last photo I have time to render and post before I head out for a two week trip. I've decided that my camera equipment on this trip is going to be the Leica M10 Monochrom and this Pentax 43mm lens, and nothing else. A small chance that I switch to the M10-R body instead, but one or the other and just this lens will be enough. :)

I think your equipment choice for the trip is pure genius; others might think it madness. Either way, let us know how it works out for you!

Thank you!

Well, after reviewing my itinerary, looking at all the stuff I have to carry, etc etc, and considering how much time I'll have to do photography, I've decided not to carry *any* photo gear at all except for my phone. There won't be time, and my head isn't in the right place for it at the moment. I've thought about it and thought about it, and it just doesn't make sense on this trip. :(

Oh well, another time. This trip has too much ground to cover and too little time to make it worth it.
I'm off to bed, flight is at 7:15 am so I have to be at the airport about 5:30 or so.

A phone can still cover a lot of territory, photographically speaking. In any case, happy trails!

Sorry to hear it (there's still time for a last-minute flip-flop), but being a grown-up is about priorities, I guess!

How can a 43mm lens’ focal length be delightful if you crop it to a square, effectively throwing away its delightful 43mm focal length?

Could you show uncropped shots, perhaps?

I have. Not all my photos are conceived within a 2:3 format standard.
You can't "effectively throw away" a lens' rendering character.

You didn't even specifically mention the focal length, but the versatility - and I consider the ability to crop an aspect of a lens's versatility.

43mm in 35 corresponds almost perfectly to 80mm in 6x6, the exact value being 79mm. Isn't the 80mm lens perfect for the Hasselblad?

LoL. Please tell me you are not serious.

The exact diagonal of 6x6 is 85mm
The exact diagonal of 56mmx56mm is 80mm.

Now if we were NOT to mix apples and oranges, in our precise case the crop seems to be 24mmx24mm, with a diagonal of 34mm.

Therefore, and indeed, the 43mm lens has completely been flouted into becoming a 34mm focal length image.

@Ororaro :: For what reason doth ye protest so much???

No matter ... I have quite a few photos made with the 43mm using various Leica bodies. Go to Flickr.com and look through my photos there if you are so inclined to see it in action ... Godfrey DiGiorgi

Enjoy! G

Typo on my side, 84.8528mm and not 79mm. Still close enough.

Have to say: the iPhone 15 Pro does quite nicely as a camera. :)

Agree. 👍 It’s my main camera.

Love the Portrait mode for certain situations.
