I saw one of these for sale around $40 in fair condition, just missing batteries. Are these any good or as good as the other Oly RFs? What battery should I use in it?

Thanks

Angelo

The camera can take the 1.5v battery that replaces the old 1.4v, seen in ebay has PX640 / PC640A / LR52 / MR9 battery, and then adjust the asa setting due to higher voltage.
(ex: if film is asa200, put asa100 in the camera setting).
Even better would be to modify the camera with diodes to get the correct voltage

Does anyone know what diode?

I'd like to get mine modified to take modern RM640 but, although I can see (by removing the bottom plate) that it would be a simple soldering job, that is the limit of my knowledge.

Regards, David

Since this camera used to take two of those big constantly leaking mercury batteries, you should check for corrosion at the battery contacts. One diode to use is 1N-6263. I think since there are 2 batteries, you'd used 2 diodes in series. John

I've use just one Diode 1N5817. It was frans, a kind of guru on this matter that indicate this one to this type of battery, after some testing. he can sell you directly and very cheap this diode and also the one that are best for using the normal LR44 1.5v batterys in many cameras from the 70's to replace the original 1.3v battery. contact him, PX625 Battery Adapter <battery.adapter@orange.nl>, you can search in google , because he have a file in pdf very good to modify the cameras or make an adapter.

i just see now that this guy is the same that
www.nadir.it/pandora/PILE-PX625.pdf

in the file it doesn't mention the diode 1N5817, but it is the best, and he recommended it for this battery.
if you need help, i can send the photo of how to install, but with the pdf i think you won't need it
