Here is an auction I came across:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=120410897393
I thought these were FAR cheaper. More like $20-30. If someone was willing to pay $250 for 35RC, I wonder how much 35 RD would go for? Thoughts?

If thats representative of what they go for I'll sell mine right now! Any takers?
I'm not a huge Oly RC fan - aperture ring bothers me mainly and the pincushion distortion. But Shhh! Don't tell the overenthusiastic ebay buyers that!

I've owned two of these. I didn't pay more than $30 for either of them. For $250, you can get a much better rangefinder: Vitessa, Contax, maybe a Leica LTM, a Zeiss Ikon Contessa or a medium format camera (Rolleiflex Automat, Voigtlander Bessa) or many other cameras.
People are simply paying silly prices for the 1970s-era rangefinders.
These were and are good cameras but weren't top-of-the-line gear then or now.
So, yes, it is ridiculous.

The last RC I sold went for $125, it had all new foam, a cleaned rangefinder and was converted to the silver oxide battery. Any price someone is willing to pay is the going price. John, www.zuiko.com

Considering that CLA is $100 at zuiko.com, makes it really $25, right?

Strange... bought a Canonet GIII QL17 a year ago. 20 euros, near the end of a camera show. It's in really good shape, but has obviously been used. Despite the fact that Stephen tells us in one of his articles that millions have been sold, it was pretty hard to find.
Still, no big deal.
But half a year later, I saw at another camera show the identical twin of my Canonet. Age and condition were the same. Advertised price? 225 euros! Don't think it sold for that, but it makes you wonder. Will all the analogue gear I have collected in the last few years become a goldmine?

Midas has touched 35RC's so they cost now accordingly
While internet is great to share and learn, it's really boring how some cameras or lenses get overpriced after they have been praised enough. Canonet III QL17 is good example, while regular Canonet doesn't seem to be victim of such vanity.
Do this price jump happened after Ken Rockwell has reviewed RC? If it's Ken's review then let me note that Stephen Gandy years ago has written it's gem in it's class. Maybe digital shooters, reading Ken have got idea of RealRaw?
I don't have facts on hands, so no conclusions though I'd love to know what exactly drove price up.

Well, in this case it was Sauli Särkkä - a known and capable camera modder. Whether you like that kind of thing is a matter of taste, but he certainly does precision finishes with fine material.
But 250 UKP is steep for a pimped RC nonetheless - it might be the Ken Rockwell boost that accounted for the rest.

It's very nice when one finds a good deal or steal on classic all-metal RF. There are no rules that that should always be the case, we can only hope for it. A year or so ago I sold an original M-1 instruction book (in Japanese) for $380. If only every day were like that. John, www.zuiko.com

Ken gave the RC some props again today.
What did the RC originally sell for when it was new by the way (adjusted for inflation)?
