Any comments on lens sharpness between the two cameras?
I had shot 1 roll with an Oly 35RC about a year ago and results were good, but low light performance was not so good. I just got another GIII to play with and my local dealer has a nice Oly35rc for sale...so I am trying to decide on which I may want to keep and use. I cant test the Oly at the moment...Comments/sample photos welcome.

I had an Oly 35RC that I bought new in about 1974. At the time Pop Photo had high praise for it. It was a dandy little camera, compact, and with what would now be called shutter-priority exposure. Unfortunately, when I moved about 4 1/2 years ago, I had it and a couple of other cameras sitting on the couch waiting for me to take them out to the car. The movers were a couple of "green cards", and that was the last I saw of the 35RC - but the others were left untouched. Maybe they knew something! (Among which was NOT how to speak English.)

I have both trhese camera's, and the 35RC performs better in my opinion. The colors are more saturated and lively, also the 35RC is very sharp.
I found the colors of the GIII quite dull and it misses the awe that I sometimes have with 35RC pics.

It depends on what I'm shooting

It depends on what I'm shooting

Rob, I have similar experiences, but with an Oly 35RC and a 35RD. In my case I prefer the E. Zuiko on the 35RC for B&W daylight photography over the faster lens on the 35RD. Indoor shooting is definitely going to be a stretch for the 35RC.

The Canonet QL17 should have a double Gauss lens similar to the Oly 35RD. At wide open aperture it not only makes indoor photography doable, but should have the right amount of softness for close-in people shots.

If I had to chose one and one only, I'd recommend getting the Canonet. I like my RC, 43.5mm filter threads and all, but in dim to semi-existent lighting you'll run out of camera. Maybe I should shoot more color film.

I hadn't realized what a nice camera the 35RC was when I got back into photography a few years ago. Picked one up at my neighbor's garage sale for $7.50. Then I put it on Ebay and a guy in Sweden paid $90 for it!
