All this talk about Oly cameras got me looking at the two I was given recently, a G, and a 10. Not sure if I'll get the G to working again, but the 10 is functional. I knew where there was a cheap T-20 flash at my favorite junktique store, so I went down and got it. Then I came across a Winder-2 that no one was bidding on, and got it for way less than anything else that is on there at the moment. It came in today, and after cleaning out a little battery smutz, and some verdigris off the contacts, it runs nice and strong.

So now I've got the G.A.S. for an OM-1, and some more lenses. Crap, just what I need, another camera platform to support. Guess it's time to start offloading some other gear.

Let's see, apart from the dozens and dozens of 35mm point and shoot and scale focus or rangefinder cameras that I literally have scattered about my house, I have SLR cameras in M42, C/Y, Canon FD, Minolta, and Nikon F mount. I used to have a Pentax K-mount kit, but I sold it. I have Konica AR lenses, but no body. Somehow, some way, the universe has yet to provide me with an OM system to play around with. I have never even held one in my hands. Which is odd, considering that I hold their compact AF cameras and viewfinder/rangefinder cameras in very high regard.

Welcome to the cult ,er, club! Careful, it can turn into quite the obsession for some. On the bright side, OMs and zuikos are still comparatively cheap compared to Leica or new digital. ( Lately the only thing keeping my OM gas at bay are those equally lovely smc takumars :bang: )

I figured out a way to tamper down the flames. I'm getting a couple of Tamron Adaptall 2 Olympus mounts to use on my two kit zooms (28-70, 70-210). I don't know why I didn't think of that earlier. It will at least give me more functionality until I can get some nice Zuiko's.

Mike, I hear you. I hadn't planned on getting any Olympus gear, but a box full of stuff came in one day from a friend of mine, and the two bodies were in there with a 1.8/50. I'm thinking of off-loading the Canon gear for starters.

I was in the same situation for a bit, but finally got my OM kit finalized. Now to get rid of a few of the extra lenses I've "collected" along the way..

My OM stuff has completely replaced my EOS stuff for film shooting.

The problem with OM GAS is just the sheer range of components to the system.

That I found out today. Finally got some time to sit down and do some proper research. Man, there is a lot of variation in that system. It may be a while before I ever figure out what goes with which model.

PF, type in 'olympus esif' into google. That is the "electronic sales information file" for Olympus OM. Tons of information on all parts of the system.

The thing is no matter how comprehensive the system may be all you really need is an OM-1 and a few lenses to experience the joy of SLR minimalism.

That is bang on right Keith. But it's nice to have an overview before you go searching.

My personal choice is 24 f2.8, 35 f2.8, 50 f1.8, 85 f2, 135 f3.5, and 200 f5. Most are the slower, lighter weight versions and all take the 49mm filter size. Someone else's needs probably would be different, lots to chose from but already getting thin on the ground for some focal lengths.

I get the Zen part with the OM-1, Keith. I'm just not feeling it with the 10 and G.

Thanks for the tip, Zuiko85. (EDIT: I see I was on that site earlier today)

Not all of it, Greg. I'm keeping the FT, and the FL lenses. The rest is surplus to me. You still looking for an FTbn?

When I first ventured into the OM waters it was as a result of the constant praise the cameras received here at RFF ... back then Joe even had one from memory! 😀

It started with a fifty dollar OM-2 and 50mm f1.8 (eBay) and I now have five bodies and about fifteen lenses but could happily condense this down to an OM-1 body with 28 or 35mm f2, a 50mm f1.4 and the brilliant 85mm f2. The two most expensive OM toys I have are my OM-3 and the 50mm f1.2 both of which seem to fit into the 'cult' classification and are priced accordingly. They were my personal holy grails in the OM range and even though I barely use them I couldn't be without them because they were quite hard to find.

I confess to being an athiest but if I was to worship a god it would have to be Yoshihisa Maitani. 😀

Oh ... and I see someone has started a Nikon F worship thread and while I admire the cameras to me they are the taxis of the photography world! 😀

Funny, it was your posts that got me started. Now I have an OM-1n and 2n with several lenses 28mm through 200mm, a set of extension tubes, and winders. The 85mm is indeed fantastic.

as long as you leave the battery out.

1 lens is doable... 50/2 or 28/2 depending on where I'm at, though probably the former if I can make it work.

😱You done gone & drank the RFF Koolaid over those Oly's. Go see a Dr. 😉😀

I couldn't take all the OM talk a couple of years ago and bought one off ebay. Lets just say, it wasn't for me.

Plus I need yet another system like I need a whole in my head.

If I was going to buy into a new system I'd jump into Minolta. Those old Rokkor lenses are over looked by most.
