Oly M4/3rds to be Announced.....

They invoked some heavy duty design Gods in that release. Could this be another OM class industry rocking camera coming out? Now I have have to wait a month to hear, AAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!

Thanks for the update, please keep us (those of us without time to hunt) in the loop.

This is the only announcement that could derail me from buying an Nikon DSLR some time within the next year.......

Fingers, eyes, legs, toes and ears all crossed.

Thanks again.

I'm not in the market for anything right now, but I'm rooting for the House That Maitani (mostly) built to at least try and rock the photographic world, digital division, at least one more time. IMO, it needs it.

Couple of comments in the report caught my eye:

upwards of 30% of P&S users would like to switch to SLRs but are deterred by ergonomics.

the actual product to hit the market will look significantly different from the mock-up design that was shown last year.

olympus wants to create a new market segment.

all of this sounds exciting. target release date in the second week of july. it'll be fun to watch the early adopters!

As i've said a few times already, it'll most certainly be announced mid june and released very soon after. This is the little cam I've been waiting for, and I'm sure a lot of other people here too (aviotus comes to mind)

The interesting thing, is it may not be what people have been expecting, according to the president of Olympus:

'At the meeting to announce the financial results, President Kikukawa commented in reference to the exterior design of the mockup in the presentation material "I think the design is a little uncool/ugly/poor [lots of ways to translate "dasai."] "This is not the final version, and it will change quite a lot" he suggested regarding changing the exterior design.'

With obvious appeal to those of us Of A Certain Age who remember the thrill of deciphering 70s-era camera manuals.

Which might mean that Olympus, at long last, really is up to something big...

We can only hope. And, if any company truly needs an out-of-the-box hit (Besides Pentax, of course), it's Olympus.

I just got my E-620. I'm done with Oly for a while :D

Unless they pair the release of this camera with a couple of sweet compact prime Zuiko's that are wider than 50mm (equivalent).

I'm interested in this camera, although I wonder how big (or small) it really is. I'm looking for a something that's smaller than my R-D1, something that's light and easy to carry around, for non-serious photo travel. I've been close on the pana lx3 but the unavailability of the camera hasn't made it easy. I saw the Oly prototype, and it just looks so cool. If the image quality is there and it's small enough, it might be worth it. Plus that turns my cv 35/1.2 into a portrait lens (which would be awesome).

A 35/1.2 on that tiny body would be interesting to see. Although word is the production version will look different than the mockup.

Yeah, it would probably not be the most balanced setup ever. I read that about it looking different than the mockup, unfortunately. I'd like to see the knobs setup something like the R-D1, shutter speed and iso on a dial rather than buried in menus. But I hope they keep it pretty clean.

I’ve been scouting internets for the last hour trying to figure this out: what type of lens mount will it use? And would it be theoretically possible to use M/LTM lenses with it through an adapter? (an integral viewfinder would be nice too...)
If so, this is one of the most exciting news in the camera world for a while.

I work at Canon HQ, you can be sure I'm rubbing this camera into everyones face here :)

Micro 4/3 lens mount of course. :)

Makes sense of course, but I was wondering because all micro 4/3 lenses are Panasonic branded. Also the camera looks small enbough for those lenses to be a bit of overkill. But of course that could be an illusion.
Does that mean they'll develop separate lenses for this camera line?
