I like the other OMs. Its only the fully manual ones I don't get along with too well, and that's a purely personal quirk.

I have an OM1 paired with either a 50/1.8 or a 50/1.2 for low-light work. Both are fantastic lenses and are absolute bargains. I would recommend a 28/3.5 for a wide-angle lens if you want something very small and compact. They can be had for peanuts these days.

If anyone is interested in a Zuiko 16/3.5 semi-fisheye, send me a PM as I have one I'm not using very much.

I think the OM system is still the best SLR system ever made in terms of ergonomics, reliability and size.
 
Cradle OM body in left hand, Hold right end on body with right hand. Left hand is there to turn shutter speed dial and focus / zoom / diaphragm. Right hand winds film, fires shutter. No matter what camera you chose, the user will have to eventually change the shutter speed 🙂. John
 
Bit late, so this might not be worth much now, but I use OMs a lot - I have one OM1n and three OM2ns. (I had an OM2SP but didn't like it as much, and haven't persuaded myself to spend the money needed for an OM4).

I'd go for the OM2n, because of the easily-available battery and the aperture-priority auto. I had my OM1n modified to take SR44 batteries, but it added about £50 (~$80) to the price. And I'd go for the n version simply because it's newer, if nothing else.

Good wide lenses? I have the multi-coated versions of the 35/2.8, 28/2.8, 24/2.8, and 21/3.5, and all are excellent. For general-purpose wide use, I'd say go for the 35/2.8 or 28/2.8 according to choice - which one to go for is something only you can decide based on your shooting style.

If you fancy a wide zoom, I have a 28-48 and I think it's probably the best Zuiko zoom I have.

Those of you who miss your OM 1 or OM2 may be interested in a superb screensaver or two that can be downloaded from Olympus.

If you click on "Papercraft" you'll find (very, very slow to load) two PDF's to print and then cut out and make a paper or card model OM1. Could it get better than this?

everyone has been waiting for Olympus to re-issue the OM-1 again! now its here! fantastic..

that is classic David thanks for showing the link, comes with the f1.4 as well, what more could you ask for...maybe they will release the 1n and the OM-2 soon 😀
 
As an update, I wanted to share what my wife eventually got. The camera wasn't from me, as I spoke with her father and he told me that he found a Minolta SRT 101 for her. He found one somewhere with a 50mm and a 28mm lens, so he beat me to the punch.

From what I've read, the rokkor lenses are fairly nice glass, and the camera seems ( and feels ) like a workhorse. All the gear is in pretty nice condition ( especially the lenses ), and I'm hoping that she'll like it.

Now if only I could get the idea of getting an Oly of my own out of my mind...

All else being equal, I've got a feeling she will. Minolta certainly knew how to make great optics, right down to the glass itself.

Now if only I could get the idea of getting an Oly of my own out of my mind...

I have an SRT but I don't use it. It feels MASSIVE and BULKY after using an OM. I have a 28mm Rokkor but I don't find it terribly sharp. My 1:2 45mm Rokkor is pretty sharp though.

ChrisN has some OM bodies up for grabs. Lay off the black one, though. I called it.

Now why would I want someone's else's brassing? It wouldn't be fair of me to take credit for it. Any resultant brassing that will occur with this black Oly will be purely due to my own handywork.

Those of you misguided enough to have the free "cut out and make" OM on your shelves may now want the extra lenses that go with it. Try www.olympus-global.com/en/fun/wallpaper/camera/index.cfm?t=pc for your freebies. If nothing else it shows the folks at Olympus have a sense of fun or humour. There's not much of that around.
