Olympus-35 LE battery? (6 Transistors)

Anyone know what battery (batteries?) the Olympus-35 LE takes? I'm assuming it takes a mercury cell, but the compartment is bigger than a standard button cell, so either it takes two of the button cells, a larger battery, or my battery compartment is damaged/altered. Searching the web has proved fruitless. Thanks for any info. This is the camera, by the way, that says "Olympus-35" and "6 Transistors" on the front.
 
I don't know from personal experience, but RFF member HowPow posted that it is a A1PX some time ago. Hope that helps.
 
Thanks for the tip! I'll see if I can find a suitable substitute. Not even sure this camera works, but I think the shutter is battery dependent.

Certainly possible. I have a few Olys, and the 35 EC and ECR require a battery for the shutter to function, I know that. I'm sorry I do not know more about the LE.
 
Hi. The A1PX is the go. It's a 1.5V Alkaline battery. These cameras have the worlds quietest shutter (when they work), unfortunately mine works on a random basis. Still they look great!!
 
Hi there! I got an LR50 battery, which is supposed to be the equivalent to the one you mentioned. At first nothing happened. I then went in and cleaned the inside battery contact with white vinegar and got it to at least "try" to fire. I can hear it click slightly and the blades twitch. But that's it. Oh well. Maybe I can grind a little of the age off the contacts with a dremel tool and get better contact with the battery.

I have the Olympus 35 LC, which has the same lens and body with a mechanical shutter and I love it.
