Olympus 35 RC question

I have searched the forums, probably not completely though, I haven't found the answer. I was doing some cleaning this weekend and discovered this camera that I had forgotten that I had

I removed the top and cleaned the rangefinder and viewfinder. I also un-stuck the shutter while she was completely opened up. I do have a second, but it is missing a battery cover. So I didnt' bother with it right now. That is the question I have. The battery in this camera appears to be the dreaded 625 mercury. Is there a replacement? Can I use the same fix that the Yashica guy and several others propose for the Yashica G series that use the same battery? Do I really need the battery if I am able to muddle out an exposure(sunny 16 etc) I have a roll of film in the camera right now that I am running through to see if there are light leaks etc. I will post some pics when I get the roll back. battery not needed. very nice lens and quiet operation.
use a hearing aid battery with o ring or get an adapter for modern battery use.

Thanks, I figured it was as simple as that. After reading a bit I learned that the battery is really only used for the AE system and nothing else. I think I can live without that. I will see what the roll looks like and then decide.

The exposure lock feature is pretty sweet- metering off tree bark or grass to get the incident reading, pushing the shutter until the needle stops moving, then compose and focus..

A 1N5817 diode or similar will drop the voltage of a silver to the right level if you get tired of putting the sticky tab on and off the zinc air. (to keep the zinc air from croaking on the shelf, it helps to save the tab and put it back on while the camera is on the shelf)

The only thing I don't like about the RC is the tiny controls when in manual mode. When using auto exposure, it doesn't matter; it's easy to focus. It's one of the few Oly RFs that show both shutter speed and aperture in the viewfinder.
