I had a stroke of luck today, found an olympus 35RC with manuals and original olympus skylight in a charity store for the princely sum of...

£3!!!!

They said it didnt work, but couldnt resist...

Got it home, quick clean and check over, new battery in and she was away 🙂

So what I'm wondering is am I ok using a PX625 instead of the original mercury cell?
I use a PX625 in my 35 EC and the exposure doesnt seem to worry most colour film, with the manual controls and extra flexibility, I plan to use the RC mainly for black and white, will the exposure still be OK, or am I better sourcing a mercury battery for the lower voltage?

Any ideas and suggestions all welcome.

My 35RC works fine on cheap alkaline cells. I understand that the circuit of the Oly meter is not sensitive to battery voltage variations (a bridge cct, apparently).

I had a couple of RCs. Very nice cameras they are. I always used cheap 1.35V hearing aid batteries and had no problems with metering. I placed a simple rubber 0-ring around the battery.
