Olympus 35RC & OM2n

I just "inherited" these two cameras. Although I know cameras, I know nothing about these two.

1. The 35RC is obviously an RF camera. Its battery is dead, but the shutter works fine and the lens is good. However, the rangefinder seems mis-aligned. Otherwise the camera seems fine, and one could always forget the rf part and zone-focus. I guess a new battery will bring the meter to life.

What kind of contemporary battery does it take?

2. The OM2n is black, has the 1.4/50 lens. It is dead in the water as it is apparently unable to operate without new batteries. What kind does it take?

By dead I mean you can't even advance the shutter. Hope this is due to dead batteries. This camera is very clean and obviously hasn't been used much. Plus it comes with a 75-150 Zuiko zoom lens.

Any help deeply appreciated.

Hi Ted,
The manual for the 35RC is on my website http://pentax-manuals.com/manuals/range/range.htm

The OM2 manual can be found here http://www.lensinc.net/freeuser.html

Ted: The OM-2n (which I predict you'll like, especially with the 1.4) takes SR44 batteries. DON'T use alkalines, use high-drain silver-oxide only. There's a reset button in the battery compartment; you may have to depress that in addition to installing new batteries.

The 50/1.4 is quite good, the serial #s => 1,5xx,xxx are favoured, but all are very nice.

Serial on this lens is 711947. Oh, well. Thank you Kim, for the link to manuals, and thanks Trius for the battery info.

What I really want to do with these cameras is to get them operational so they can be moved on to someone who really loves Oly's. In the SLR world, I remain solidly Pentax. In the RF world, I am moving toward Leica.

As an RF camera, is the 35RC any good?

Ted
In the MF world (haven't had one of those for ages) my just aquired Rolleiflex 2.8E has opened the door to a new adventure.

the rc is a great camera and the lens will surprise you.
i have 2 now but had about 5 or so at one time.

the city hall tour shots from my downtown album are from the rf.
i might be interested in another if you decide to sell it.

Ted, the RC has had great testimony in this thread you started. I have one which I use to lug back and forth to work. Great 'pocket camera' throw it in a brief case or back pack and go. Sharp lens, great for outdoor, built like a brick and .... Joe sez he usta own 5 count that five of them!

Better testimonial is not possible.

cheers.

BTW I'm thru the roll w the Kiev and it's going in for processing next week. Shots up in a few days after that.

Ted: There's another thread here somewhere where Kat is looking for a SLR, and the OM was mentioned as one option, along with Nikon, Minolta, Pentax, and the other usual suspects.

BTW, according to one thread on the OM list, Scott Gee states the last version of the 50/1.4 started about SN 1,085,000. I was off just wee bit.

Thanks everyone. I'm off to the big city tomorrow (Sierra Vista, population 40,000) to get some batteries and see if these Oly's will come to life. But the rf patch on the 35RC is definitely out of whack. Boy, compared to my GSN, this thing is tiny.

OT completely: I just returned from shooting a $100 a plate democratic fundraiser (120 paid guests) in a dimly lit, elegant restaurant (Cafe Roka) with my Pentax ist DSLR. I HATE flash photography. I, at this moment, declare to the world that I will never do flash again.

I did it because I'm a democrat, sort of. And because they paid me (they refused to let me use film, which would have worked much better as I have some fast lenses and wouldn't have had to use flash).

But trying to photograph congressional candidates in a pandemonium where everyone is swilling wine and getting drunker as the evening wears on, and what do you end up with? You end up with some very cinema verite stuff of a bunch of drunks.

Never again.
