New Years Day, 2010.

Walk to friends house; snowy, just below freezing. Have Leica M8 in plastic bag in backpack, also have a new to me Olympus 35RC with new light seals, cleaned, and a roll of FP4 in it.

The Olympus has never been used by me; just finished the light seals and finding an intermittent electrical short. This is its first outing.

Bunch of friends, running a passenger hauling Live Steam locomotive. The M8 did its "can't wind the shutter" continuous thing after about 20 shots. The Olympus 35rc was unbagged, and continued shooting for the remainder of the day.

Developed the Olympus -ified FP4 film last night; negs look great.

Thumbs up for the 35rc.

Just an update; my dealer in Montreal mentioned that older batteries in M8s tend to do this; I have a new battery on order.

So, maybe, even though the battery is charged, it can't pump the amps when cold? I don't know - but if that is the case, and the new battery helps, then problem solved.

Anyway, just though I should add this clarification.

The RC is great--it shares the bag with my M8 often, too.

I wouldn't keep the M8 in a plastic bag, though. It will just prevent condensation from being able to escape when you bring it back indoors.

35RC was my first camera ever, and it's still with me. Simply stunning workhorse. Never failed me, not once. And it takes amazing sharp picture. It's always in the bag with me, somedays with Nikon d/SLR gear and sometimes with my MF cameras. I'm moving to Olympus E-P2 set up using manual Nikon glass soon and I think the 35RC is going to follow me then too :)

Jesse thanks! I've been on and off lurking here for the last three years :) Now I thought that I need to contribute to give something back.

This site is awesome, one of the best photography forums around from my limited experience.
