Olympus DC - ISO ring moves but indicator doesn't

All,

Received an Olympus 35 DC in the mail today. The ASA ring moves on the lens barrel, but the numerical DIN/ASA indicator numbers don't change 🙁

Can anyone tell me, from left or right, how many clicks I need to turn to get to 400?

Would also be very grateful if anyone can tell me what the remedy for this issue might be OR what the ISO numbers are in progression from L->R or R->L so I can just hack my way through setting ISO. Seems to be 12 spaces total.

LATER: And, of course, it gets worse. Pointing into bright sunlight, all the ASA positions meter ~1/60th at f4. Stuck on DIN 15/ASA 25. I have an LR44 battery in and the timer and shutter work, so could it be the battery for some odd reason? 🙁 *sigh*

I don't know the Olympus 35 DC. However you should be able to check which is 400 and which is 25 by listening to the shutter speed, or looking at the aperture, or both, to tell you which setting requires more or least exposure. The slower speeds should be 25, the faster speeds 400. This all assumes you ASA are from 25 to 400 rather than to 800.

You ASA values for a camera of that vintage should be 1/3 stops from 25 to 400.

25 - 32 - 40 -50 - 64 - 80 - 100 - 125 - 160 - 200 - 250 - 320 - 400

From left to right or right to left looking at the lens? And that's 13 spaces vs 12 🙁 And there is no difference in the shutter sound which leads me to believe that the ring is turning, but not changing anything..hence the numbers not changing. 🙁

Be shure that when you move the ring, the holes covering the cds cell are getting bigger, or else it will not do nothing.

Open the lens from the front, and put everything in the right place.
Thats easy.
I'll give you instructions if needed

Ahhh...that makes more sense ORF..if you're talking about the hole on the left side of the lens as you look at it...then I'm hosed because rotating the ring does not change that hole at all..just as it doesn't change the ASA #.

So the rotating lens ring IS disconnected 🙁

As for "opening the lens from the front" I have no clue how to do this... 🙁 If you can provide instructions I'd be MOST appreciative!! 🙂

Ok..now this becomes farce 🙂

I had noticed that sometimes I saw the lower parts of the next set of numbers in the window.."wow I sez....how can this be when I can't move it via the ring?" Must be sumfin else sez I..."maybe" some "other" kind of motion..... hmmmmm......

So..it turns out I can BANG the lens (left hand only while holding with right....reverse makes the numbers go round the opposite way..I can't make this stuff up)..

So now I haz 24/200 showing in the window..on the way to ??/400..

I GOTTA get this thing in to repair..but at least I can USE it now.....

So remember kids at home...if your camera doesn't work... just BANG HELL out of it..and it will!!!!!

Later: OMG..the hilarity...."yeah man..I set my ISO value by bangin the ****e out of the lens..... I KNOW it is brother...but it WORKS!!!" 😀

I just got the first pics back from the DC... whoa!!! Very nice and clean!

Even the first pics with the ISO adjustment out of whack came out nicely exposed...totally satisfied. Very useable as it runs right now.

Now for a 4 week repair cycle with Zuiko.com and I'll be a happy camper.

Hi All

My 35 DC arrived today and it's suffering from the same problem. It's stuck at ISO 800 and there seems to be no way to change that to ISO 400 for use with my trusted Tri-X film.

I'd appreciate any further input on how I could solve the problem.
