I am rather surprised after joining, that there isn't an Olympus Forum!

After all, Olympus undoubtedly made many fine RF cameras (I own a 35SP, generally accepted as one of the finest fixed lens RF's ever produced).

I think it would be very popular, and I'd certainly contribute.

As much as I'd like an Olympus forum, the idea has been discussed before and nothing came of it. But given that there's Yashica forum, I don't see why not. It would probably open the doors to Minolta, maybe a few others having their own forums, but hey, why not?

make it an Oly OM forum, as there seems to be a love affair with this system on our RFF.
for an SLR system , the OM has the closest feel to an rf setup.

I'd vote for an Oly RF forum too.

As I figure that this thread might attract the attention of people who know about Olympus gear, I have a request. Does anybody know anything about a Zuiko 4cm f2.8 lens made in leica screw mount?

I have one - pictured here:

http://www.auspiciousdragon.net/photography/articles/zuiko4cmf28leica.html

There are scattered web references to the lens, but nobody I've talked to knows anything of the history (like how many, when, why or are there any others). The person at Olympus who answered my email to the Olympus history section says that they have no records of having made such a lens.

I used the lens earlier this week and I'm just waiting for the processed negs back so I have no idea of its optical qualities yet. I'm just intrigued as to the history.

Any information greatly appreciated.

Please don’t do that please, I’m down to one body and two lenses and I’d like to keep it that way

I would like to see an Oly forum and Minox and the Rollei 35's. or at least an "other" These are great camera's.

Here! Here!
Minox 8x11's, the Rollei 35's, etc. certainly have the same minimalist spirit found in the clasic RF's. I'd settlle for "other".
"Minoxing" crosses over into 35mm photography with a vengence when you find yourself with a burning desire to heavly crop a 35mm negative.

Colin: You will be posting the results from the Zuiko 4cm, right? I too have seen references on the the web and its rarity makes it expensive, but I don't think I've ever seen example shots.

I plan on a full review in time. For simplicity I plan to write the review using digital results and back it up with experience using film (i.e. nothing more than learning between now and the M8 turning up).

I like the 40mm length on film and it should make a good "normal" length on the 1.33 crop.

I've just unwrapped a 40mm Elmarit too. Poor condition though, so results may not be typical.

I find the trick to buying older lenses is to keep a copy of the current Leica price list handy. Almost anything else looks cheap. Not buying a 50 'lux can justify a lot of shopping......

The olympus 35 ec2 is awesome, the brightest finder ever. No rf, but it does have the icons in the finder. The asa dial is under your thumb on the back, for instant exposure compensation. Same lens as the RC. I manage to get less out-of focus shots using the ec2 than with the RC..
It takes some creatitivity to work around the battery problem, but worth it.

The ecr finder is not as bright by a long shot, but it's still good, the ecr finder is just the same as the 35 RC finder without the speed and iris needle in it. The ec2 has just a lamp and a needle pointing to the focus icons, which are also on the lens along with the meters and feet.
The ec2 also differs from the ecr with the placement of the photocell. The ec2 has a separate window for the cell above the lens, looking like some kind of rf window, and the asa dial is a thumbwheel on the back of the camera, the ecr has the cell on the lens front like the RC. This means you have to manually compensate for filters on the ec2, but it also means you can manually easily compensate for backlit exposure with a filter on, where you'd have to take the filter off to get to the front mounted asa dial on an ecr.
Another really bright happy finder is on the xa2. But no icons in that one.

The ec2 has impossible to obtain batteries, which is a blessing and a curse, curse because they are impossible to get, blessing because the batteries were always expensive and later became rare, so most ec2 didn't get all that much use it seems, but the cameras are too pretty and heavy to just throw away, so they do show up on ebay cheap.
