Hey everyone,
I've been wondering, having only the Infinity Stylus, how much better (if any) is the Stylus Epic compared to the original Infinity Stylus. Sorry if it's kinda a newbie question but having googled it for a bit and finding no real comparisons I thought I'd ask the PnS genius' here :D.

Thanks a bunch!

EDIT:
OF COURSE, right after posting this I found this site: http://www.wrotniak.net/photo/stylus/index.html but I am still wanting to hear people's opinions who have used both.

Hi xytio,
better is relative term. One man's meal is other's poison, you know. While Epic is later model with better specs, some people prefer original Stylus - because of size, shape and controls. I doubt they analyze pictures and conclude that lens on early model is better. Though in real life reasonable men choose wife judging not only by size of tits and color of hair, so...get both, use, compare and if one is noticeably better for you, sell other.

About the only relevant difference I've noticed was that the symmetric shape and weight balance of the original mju: made it rest better in a pocket or bag - the mju:II always managed to work its way down way underneath or into a fold...

I always have loved shape of Epic, though after year not using it I felt it feels...almost too small for my hands now! Sure, this is just matter of habit, use either and it will deliver nice results.

Interesting, around 5 ays ago, I asked the same question. I travel a lot into Russia, Ukraine, Siberia, Mongolia and other exotic vacations hot spots around the world, and when I go I always carry a small lightweight 35MM, i.e., Olympus XA, Stylus, Konica C35, Canon ML or 28, etc. After reading some of the feedback I received in this section, I've sort of been looking for an Epic, but the prices are a little too high for me right now. I just shot some pics on one of my two Styluses to compare with a couple of other P&S cameras which I often carry. The website on net/photo was extremely helpful and answered some questions I still didn't have answers to. BTW both of my Stylus cameras were picked up for a pittance, around $2.50 each at Good Will, both in good working condition. I'll keep looking for an Epic but I'm not holding out much hope. I think the more it's discussed here the higher the prices go IMHO. But thanks for the question and the great web site with its info.

If this is the camera, you know how great it is, and how easy it is to travel with. I got mine new and have put too many rolls through it, but it still works great. I can't imagine the next model being as compact, have any better optics. It also has the best 'fill flash' of any camera I've seen.

I have the stylus epic I with the 3.5 lens. I used it twice. Incredibly nice photos. I blew one up to 8x10 with some cropping and it was extremely sharp.

The European model of the Infinity Stylus is the mju. In case anyone is interested, it is available in a panoramic version. The format can be changed from normal to panoramic and back at any time by sliding a switch on the camera back. I don't know about the Epic. Maybe someone else can say if it comes in a panoramic version. Also, concerning the Infinity Stylus models, those with gold buttons usually have date imprint and those with silver buttons do not---BUT NOT ALWAYS!!

Talking about various models, let's not forget Olympus LT-1. Basically, Olympus put a tight leather coat on mju/Stylus, and present LT-1 as an interesting alternative. Underneath it's the same machine.

I don't have the LT-1, but I do have the Lt Zoom 105, in the box with paperwork, and it's a magnificant camera. Finished in burgendy leather and bright chrome, it's really an attention getter! I've run one roll of film through it and think I want to sell it, but I really can't make myself do it. Realizing that because it possesses a zoom 38-105MM lens, the pics probably aren't as sharp as even a 3.5 Stylus let alone the 2.8 Epic, but the roll I did shoot in it a couple of years back came out beautiful IMHO! Now-a-days, I take it out of the box and wrapping, place a battery in it an check to make sure everything is in working order, and then polish it with a soft cloth. Oh yes, it also has the panoramic mode as well. Beautiful little thing - I hate the thought of parting with it.

Oooooo.. i saw an LT-1 on EvilBay and i wanted it soooo bad but the price went to around $100USD and i just couldn't bring myself to shelling out that much for what essentially stylus wrapped in sexy leather lol.

Leather-tech Mju/Stylus is rather pickers choice, to me. I saw it in local shop years ago, and that leather wrap case (over lens) looked like not so practical. That camera is all about design, while clamshell is for utility.

You can pick up Konica BiG mini with 35/3.5 lens without lens barrier (just like LT-1) and be fine - if LT-1 itself isn't your goal :)

Slide the clamshell with one hand, shoot from the hip: easy to do. Then put it back in your shirt pocket.

That's what I can do with Epic (not having original Stylus). Again, with big mini not having any lens cover can do it even easier...like LT-1 guys can :)
I think naked lens/lens cover is rather matter of habit. Naked lens compact cameras usually need pouch.

I managed to buy a Stylus (mju) at a reasonable price last month. Its a joy to get photos back from my local mini-lab taken by that camera; they usually are well exposed and sharp. I love my Stylus as much as my equally great XA.

Congratulations on getting a Stylus and I'm glad that you are enjoying it. I picked up my Stylus and Mju-II at the thrift store along with a Stylus Zoom for a total of $10.00, and they all came with a good battery. I have been using the Mju-II and rate it right up there with the XA that I spent a goodly sum on.

Great thread, thanks for the info. I have a Stylus Epic and I'm going to buy another one, so I can have color and b&w available at all times. The photos are really amazing, once you get used to the quirks of IR focusing :bang:

The Stylus Epic rocks. The lens in that little camera is really great. For a little point-and-shoot, it takes great photos. Plus, it's so tiny and simple to use, it makes a great casual walk-around camera to keep with you for everyday use.

I'm lucky in that I have five Goodwills in the metro area to shop at for cameras. I got my Stylus a couple of months ago, and finally ran a roll through it for a comparison test of three other 35mm lensed p&s's (Canon Snappy 20, Kodak VR35 K10, Minolta Freedom AF35, with results to follow processing of film).

I must say the pocketability of the Oly is tops, except that the one I have seems to be missing the click stop for holding the cover closed, so I have to make sure to put it in my pocket in the proper orientation.

Then the other day I ran across an Epic Zoom 170. Though not as svelt as the original Epic (gotta have room for the zoom), it is still a quality unit, with one of the longest zooms (38-170) I've seen in a compact. Another feature that caught my eye is the 'All Weather' designation, with extra sealing from the elements. It is remote controlled capable, but alas, the remote was not with the camera. And lastly, it has a sticker announcing "10th Anniversary-Stylus-Since 1991", so now I know what year it was made.

Then yesterday, I purchased a Trip 200 with the focus-free 31mm lens. Same clamshell design, but a bit blockier (doesn't cover the viewfinder). It has auto red-eye reduction, with button controls for fill-flash, and no-flash. So I'll have to do a comparo on my extra-wide compacts next.

But I'm looking forward to the results from the Stylus, as I've seen some great stuff here already.

My MJU-II fritzed out on me over the weekend. I do have a Stylus Infinity that I actually like better and it's in better condition.

But unless I get another MJU-II (Stylus Epic) I have lost my position of status. :)
