I've had them both and can't determine which is better, they are both great, so I'd go for the much less expensive f/3.5 original - half a stop isn't going to matter.

I wish I had any luck with thrift shops. I've been popping in and out of them all summer long without much luck. Ah well, the hunt continues for the 3.5

WOW. The Olympus LT-1 exists. A new camera that I have never heard of PLUS it's wrapped in leather. I will own one ASAP.

Note it's same Mju I aka Stylus, missing slow speeds Mju ][ aka Stylus Epic has. If you don't need shutter open up to 2sec. (4 in night flash mode) then original Stylus is just fine.

I found my LT-1 for 10,- Euro on a fleamarket, with a slightly damaged "tongue".

I prefer the mju-II because of it´s spot metering and the longer exposure time.

My MJU-II fritzed out on me over the weekend. I do have a Stylus Infinity that I actually like better and it's in better condition.

But unless I get another MJU-II (Stylus Epic) I have lost my position of status. :)

I'm back in the MJU-II club !

I found a Stylus Epic DLX on ebay with no bidders. I got it for the minimum bid of $20 ! woo hoo

It arrived in excellent ++ condition and I have a roll of Fuji Neopan 400 in there as we speak.

But I do like the MJU-I (Stylus Infinity) quite a bit too. I think it's actually easier to operate and feels better in the hand.

Both are fun, fine, little cameras.

The older Stylus was a very fine camera. A poster mentioned that the Epic would go pretty slow -- 2 or 4 seconds. The older Stylus Infinity stops at 1/15, I believe -- too fast for some of the things I shoot. And when you couple the "lost" 1/2 stop and the not-slow-enough shutter times, it's pretty much a daylight shooter for me. A good one, though...

Hmmm, well, both are point and shots and you've no way of knowing what aperture the thing is using and so that means the wider aperture might be useful but who can tell?

The other point is spot metering on the later one but, again, it's not often use and the earlier one copes very well with contre jour pictures. And no one's mentioned the self timer which needs two fingers to push the ST button at the same time as the shutter on the early model but is more conventional on the later one.

So as I see it when used as a P&S there's not much to worry about or even notice; apart from the chrome ring around the lens...

Regards, David

PS And I've a LT somewhere and the fact that I don't know where it is and have forgotten when/if I last used it speaks volumes.

Both are excellent pocketable point and shoot cameras.
I own both and prefer the original. It's simpler to operate.
I seldom require the more advanced functions of the Epic.

i bought a stylus epic for the second time before my trip to paris last week. it was nearly all work, and so i didn't get a whole lot of time to do any shooting. when i did it was mostly in the very early morning or late at night. thus, the stylus epic came in handy in the low light situations. nearly all of these are handheld except for the arc de triomphe one. new portra 400 (at 400) was used.

i've taken this exact same shot before on digital.

i had a light leak on my first roll for the first 10 shots. i don't know why. it disappeared thereafter. second roll was unaffected.

Well, there's another difference I forgot about: Epic has spot metering. Sometimes that's a real advantage. Sometimes it doesn't make any difference at all.

I like the original Stylus and the Epic even more.
