the screw in the shutter release adjusts the height of the release button, screw it in and you have to push the release further in toward the guard to fire the shutter, out for the reverse. most om's i've seen have the release sitting proud of the guard by approx 1mm.
Be carefull when you take the bottom off as there is a very small spring that can ping out very easily. How do I know? guess:bang: I actually found it again on the floor and put it back but even without it, the camera worked fine. See here for a photo of the spring,

I think you should try to find the cause for the lock-up.

All the mechanisms are under the bottom cover. It might be the mechanism that prevents multi-exposure, or mirror charging lever (mirror not being cocked).

Remove the bottom plate and shake, tap, and blow some air around. Many times a tiny piece of film tears itself off and lodges down there. Some cleaning and light lube of the gears thst you can reach may do it. No harm in this. If it still is stuck, a professional CLA is the cure, and will make everything else operate smooth as buttah.

Thank you for your tips everybody, I have done all this already but there seems to be some mechanical failure. I am sending the camera back to the person I bought it from for a refund. I'll be shooting with my OM-2n in the future instead.
