I just picked up a very clean OM3. When I look at the display in the VF it seems washed out. Sort of a brown background. Is this the normal coloring of the LCD viewfinder display? It seems to lack contrast.

I appreciate yor help

Thanks

The background color of the LCD display depends on the ambient lighting, as this is what provides the lighting through the front pentaprism window. Outdoors in daylight, it is blue. Under yellowish indoor light, it can appear yellowish brown. However, the contrast should be pretty good unless you are in dim lighting.

I'm missing something: the OM3 is a analog camera. What LCD display are you guys talking about ?

If you mean what you see in the viewfinder, it might be the focussing screen (I'm not sure if this is the proper word in English) that's dirty. It can easily be taken out and cleaned.

Thanks. The camera has a readout panel viewed through the viewfinder that displays lighting/meter levels.

The background shows up as brown indoors and outside. Independent of lighting conditions. Thanks for you help.

In anything but very dim or oddly colored light, mine is blue (as dtcls100 says). Look at the little greyish strip across the front of the pentaprism: is it dirty/discolored? That sliver of a window is the light source.
