Panasonic makes a Micro FT 7 – 14 mm / F4.0 (14-28mm).
Regards,
Steve
I have only seen that lens offered for sale once on eBay. It is currently unobtainable.

It's probably not a lot of good to most people, but they are available in Bic Camera in Kyoto (and I guess also in Yodobashi etc. etc.).
So they will probably be making their way to the US and Europe shortly.

so scale focusing is plenty of control. AF for anything else.
i believe i am correct in saying there is no distance scale on the barrel of the 17mm lens.

Do we know anything about shutter lag yet, as that is of supreme importance. I mean, what good is a great shot if the person aint in it? If it has no lag, I'll happily use the external VF, in fact I'd prefer it as it's big and bright and with autofocus all it really does it give my eye something to pose behind.

Can't remember where, but I remember reading the lag was comparable to a mid-level dSLR>

I'm going to call my dealer when it will arrive. They are usually quick with listing new stuff, even if the price is not known yet. I'm wondering how many calls they say they have got about it...
The low res screen is a pity, the G1 is outstanding in this regard and maybe a better choice for what I want. But the E-P1 is so much smaller, has video and IS, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages by a handsome margin.
My best digi is currently the Nikon D200. Big, heavy beast. Imagine that quality in your pocket!!! Drool. And what about a Summicron DR as a 100mm portrait lens?

Yeah, I'm gonna get one too. Was hovering over the 'buy' button at Jessops, but I think I'm going to wait to check them out in the flesh. For some reason, the white seems kinda tempting (and yes, I'm one of the two people in the world that liked the white M8)

I like the white too, but it will get grubby when I drool and pore it, so I'll take the black.
What is a mid level DSLR? Is the D200 mid level, as that has no lag. If it's like that, I'm buying. Just need a bloody job.

I like the white one. It's posh!
btw, I liked the white leica, too.
I would buy the digital pen, if there was some kind of EVF avaliable. I definetly dislike the LCD thingy. I'll wait for the E-P1 MARK II and get the white one!

I'd be surprised if the lag is not less than an SLR. There's no mirror to lift up before the shutter can open.

Size comparison photos with the Canon G10 here.
This camera will work with the 4/3rds mount to Leica M mount adapter, so when I referred to superwides and scale focusing I meant lenses like the 15mm Heliar and the like. Sorry not to have been clear on brands, adapters & lens types.

But a 15 Heliar is not a superwide on this camera. It's a 30mm equivalent lens.
Yes, but it still will have the DOF of a 15mm lens, or more with the 4/3 sensor, and it does have a distance scale.
I think it is a little redundant if you buy the kit with the 17mm lens, but.... I have been looking for an excuse to buy the CV 15....hmmm.

Ach, tough crowd here. Let me see if I can further increase the resolution of detail.
If I get this camera, I plan to use a Voigtlander Super Wide-Heliar 15mm f4.5 Aspherical with a Voigtlander VM adapter and a Voigtlander 28-90 LTM adapter. And I intend to use scale focusing which should be completely possible even though I recognize the effective focal length will be 30mm. My prediction is that this will allow me to shoot without needing an EVF. It may even allow me to shoot effectively without looking at the live view LCD. I plan to only use an accessory 28mm viewfinder on the top of the camera for framing, mounted in the flash shoe, recognizing that the 28mm viewfinder will give me a slightly wider view than would a 30mm viewfinder. At any rate, I am not so worried about whether the camera has an EVF or not.

I don't know. It looks cool. It has some nice features (in-body IS, etc.). I love the Pen design, but the lack of a VF or an EVF or an articulated LCD is a tough line to cross for me.

I agree with you Ray. Olympus should have included an EVF. Anyway, I don't like silver. It'd would be a cool looking camera if it were available in black!

I think this should work very well.
f8 focused to 6 ft= 3-infinity.
f11 focused to 4.4 ft= 2.2-infinity
How will you determine your focusing distance though? Will the lens scale be trustworthy? I guess it would...

Panasonic has a long history of using EVF. It was natural and a smart move to include it on their micro 4/3 offerings. We were all waiting to see what Oly was gonna offer. Now that we have, I think that the inclusion of an EVF and an articulated LCD gives the edge to the Panasonic line.
Black would look great (especially since black Pens were rare)!

i like stainless steel, looks cool.
do you think that many people would buy this as a first and only camera or more as a back up/second body?

I think the engineering challenges are far tougher than if they read (and take any stock in) RFF comments. :angel:And I must have an optical viewfinder. Somebody else must have a tilt/swivel LCD.
It sure can't be easy being a camera maker, especially when trying to set out a new type of camera where there appear to be no "generally accepted parameters" for a market segment (or segments?) that's not yet established. While I'm unlikely to buy any of 'em just yet, I'm happy at the recent release of the non-SLR Sigmas and Panasonics and now Olympus with large(r) sensors. (Of course I'm also glad of the Epson and Leica DRFs and even, if I recall correctly, a now-defunct Sony with APS-C sensor and EVF.)
Perhaps with a bit of R&D and market-research by product release we will all end up with a bunch of cool cameras to use.

Stick on an M or other mount wide/super wide ... the scales are right on each one of them. Add viewfinder, and Waa Laa [sic].
I'll wait for the E-P1 MARK II and get the white one!
The Mark II is definitely coming only in fuscia and violet, with a Safari edition on special order. Sorry, no white. Only three people bought the white Mark I edition, so the beancounters said no more.

And I would be using the OM system Zuiko 21/2 and 24/2.8, same schtick, different finders. I may also use the mZD 17/2.8 for autofocus needs, with 35 finder. That was easy.

Dunno about most people, but for me it would be the digital, with M and 4x5 for film.

Keith, I think Olympus is playing the usual "make them wait" game to steam up the demands for the black version. You know it'll come down the pipe eventually, probably for a bit of a price hike. Safari edition, anyone?
As for the EVF thing, if I were Olympus marketing, I'll create a special discounted package:
"RFF special: VF-1 optical viewfinder included"
... seriously!
