Olympus PEN EE* serial numbers

Hello All,

I have just received my first half frame camera that is an Olympus PEN EE3 in a seemingly perfect condition, the red flag does its thing and it even has its lens cap so I expect the selenium meter to be OK. This is also my second Olympus camera following the Mju II which I also like.

Is it possible to get some informatio out of the serial number of the camera?
I would like to know a bit about the childhood of my new PEN.

Can't wait to put a roll through it.

My Pen EE is a#701446 Has a nice looking "leather?" zippered case and lens cover. Been looking for a polarized filter as well as a UV filter. Must be an odd size.

if you take off the pressure plate there may be a code underneath it. The first digit will be the last number of the year, the next will be the month and the third character will be the factory. You would need to look at production figures as to which year it may be.

The EE3 had a long production run. From May 1973 to October 1986.
Behind the pressure plate there should be a production code. (back side of pressure plate, that is)

Such as 'S0X5' (letter S, number 0, letter X, number 5)
'S' plant code
'0' last digit of year 1980
'X' month October
the 5 is the pressure plate type

2-Feb
3-Mar
4-Apr
5-May
6-June
7-July
8-Aug
9-Sept
X-Oct
Y-Nov
Z-Dec
