olympus rd

Skylight filter has slight warm tint to improve skintone when lit by .... Skylight.

No problem using it all the time for protection of lens.

I have fixed two RD's with oily/sticky shutter blades, two other had glued lens assemblies and couldn't be opened. Not with normal tools anyway. One repairman told me that it's possible with the help of a soldering iron.
I've had all the good 40/1.7 RF and the RD is one of the best. Great choice.

Never use alkaline batteries in this camera or other cameras built for mercury batteries. Either use Zinc-Air hearing aid batteries with some sort of spacer (I use an o-ring) to make a tight-enough fit. or a silver-oxide battery with a voltage converter device that steps down the voltage.

Alkaline batteries have a slow discharge curve; the voltage drops gradually and exposure readings become inaccurate even though there is enough juice in the battery to operate the meter.

For batteries use the Wein cells referenced above from Small Battery co. They fit without physical adjustment of the battery compartment and deliver the correct voltage. They don't last as long as the original mercury but you don't need any other adjustment. Luckily I have original mercury batteries still going strong.

If you ever need a service of these cameras I can highly recommend Ed Trzoska Leicester in Leicester on 0116 2674247 who did a great job on mine cleaning the shutter blades properly, and checking, cleaning & calibrating everything else, it's like new.

I've just ordered some Wein Cell batteries, I might order the Rolls Royce one at some point!

I might give Ed a call, I'm just runining my first test film through the camera and once I've seen the results I might send it off regardless to bring it up to it's best.
