A couple of things about the Epic:
The flashing "E" usually means that the film is not loaded correctly--and these are sometimes a bit fiddly. The film needs to be just at the mark and fairly flat. With the "lip" of the film cassette pointing directly across the film gate. I bought one for my mother the first year they were released and 10 or 11 years later it failed by not being able to load and advance the film. I think it was because the advance mechanism was not "grippy" enough any more.
They cost about $214 when they first came out. Not sure where Don Collucci got his $80 figure from but maybe that was a new-old-stock price when he wrote that web page. I bought the last one I briefly ( mom swiped it as soon as she saw I had it:bang
had from a local drug store chain for $15 on close out two years ago.

Don't forget the various zoom models. While not as fast or glamorous as the fixed lens versions, they are still very high quality autofocus weather sealed cameras - and are generally much cheaper than the hyped versions
My wife has an Epic Stylus Zoom 80 (38-80/4.5 - 8.9) that does a wonderful job for her. She still carries it rather than the Canon A590IS I got her to replace it.
