Olympus XA problem

Hi all,

My beloved XA stopped working.

It started when I took it out on a cold day (approx 25°F). Every time I winded the film, it would take the picture by itself, before I touched the shutter release. Then I took it back indoors and it worked OK.

After a couple of weeks, the same problem occurred and then it got completely stuck. Now the situation is the following :

• the film winder is stuck, the exposure counter is on "S".
• the rewind release button is stuck in "pressed" position.
• the battery is ok (light + continuous sound).
• self-timer works : when I press the shutter release, the timer fires (light + sound), but when it's complete, nothing happens.
• since self-timer works, I think shutter release is ok.

Apparently something prevents the shutter from firing... has anyone encountered this? Is there any known fix?

Digging up an old thread, but I don't suppose anyone ever found a fix for this?
