Olympus XA production numbers?

Does anyone have the production numbers for the Olympus XA, XA2, and possibly the the rest?

I guess we'll have to collect all the serial numbers we can from ebay etc and then work it out from them...

they claim 20,000 to 30,000 XA’s per month - although the source of that information is not given. Seems very high (1000 per day!).

The XA itself was made from 1979 to 1985. So, simple math: 25,000 units average per month, 12 months per year, 7 years: 2,100,000 as a rough estimate. I doubt they achieved that. For comparison, the Pentax K1000 was made from 1976 to 1997 and they sold somewhat over 3,000,000 cameras.

Hmmm, a slight clue comes from the serial number of one of my XA4's which is 124XXX and that suggests each model had an individual serial number range.


So should we be looking for the highest serial number on each of the 5 cameras in the range?

Forgive me for giving this thread a kick, but David's suggestion seems good to me, as I'd like to know where mine sits in XA production.

My XA's No. is 3249448.
