Olympus XA

The Fuji half frame digital might get you close. It's based on the same idea as a pocketable fixed lens at 32mm equivalent. Full frame probably isn't going to happen, Fuji's avoided it for years.

The Fuji X Half camera is what led me back to the Leica X2, which is as close to the Olympus XA (and a number of other compact 35s) as I've seen. The Leica's collapsing lens makes it quite pocketable, the controls are simple and easy like the XA (and others) and if you can find one of the self-opening/self-closing lens cap gizmos that were made for it, it's as convenient as the sliding closure of the XA (no lens cap to fuss with).

A FF format digital camera in this form factor is difficult to imagine happening as there seems to be very little market for one. The Sigma fp is close considered without the lens, but even a compact lens on it makes it a bit bulky.

No, the Leica X2, has the lens popping in and out. Too much hassle. The Ricoh is pretty close but even that has a lens that pops out, (pretty quick though) and the fuji x100's of course, lovely cameras but as much as I love them, I just want to open it and take it! no fuss. Really compact. The Fuji half frame digital is a bit gimmicky for me. Looks fabulous. I just want a 35mm equivalent full frame fixed lens, minimum focus, very few buttons. I bet if Olympus revived it, as a digital camera they would sell. Oh well I can dream. This was taken years ago with the XA. Screenshot 2025-07-25 at 16.28.27.png
