om 1 arrived today

the oly gear is starting to show up.
the om1 body and the 28/3.5 arrived today, in different boxes and from different states.

unfortunately, the 28-210 zoom that was attached to the om 1 was in 2 pieces. not a big deal as i hadn't planned on using it.

the 28 looks new and had a tiffen uv filter attached. it was in a lens case and had both caps with it too.
i'm guessing a lenshood will be hard to track down?

the camera has more heft than i remembered and is smaller than my zeiss ikon rf.

i'm looking forward to playing with it real soon!

Oh, the memories that combination (OM-1 + 28 f/3.5 Zuiko) stirs...

I spent two months backpacking through Europe in 1978 with my OM, the 28, and the 100 f/2.8 Zuiko. Used Kodachrome 64 and never felt a loss of speed -- nice shots inside St. Peters & the Pantheon in Rome with that 28.

I'm betting you'll enjoy the Oly big time!

Having recently gotten back into my Canon FD cameras again big time, I can understand your pleasure in getting an OM-1. I'm looking forward to seeing your shots with it, joe.

Great kit! I just expanded my OM-1 kit with the addition of a 24 2.8 and a 100 2.8. I have a couple of zooms, but I plan to use it like a rangefinder, with primes. You are going to love the camera.

I picked up an old Vivitar Series 1 70-210 zoom to go with a 35/2.8 & 85/2 kit for my OM-1. I was looking for a 200/3 Vivitar for her, but could not find one at what I thought was a reasonable price.

I keep my eyes open for a 200/5 every so often. I'm a prime sort of guy and the size of that lens as always attracted me. Plus having a 49mm filter size is very handy (like Nikkors and 52mm).

I keep reaching for my OM-1 when I just need to get the job done and don't want the hassle of an antique rangefinder. They are just super grab and go SLR's. Not as well built as Nikon or Canon (IMO), but light and nimble, and the optics are very good - paticulary with the later era lenses. Most of my shots have been with the 28/3.5 and the 50/1.8, and they are always sharp and contrasty.

Another vote for the VS1 70-210 zooms. VERY sharp, in all its versions. I have the f/3.5 kiron made version in OM. Extremely good value, too.

I am not familiar with the 200/5 you mentioned. That takes a 49mm filter? The 200/3 is very big, and uses a 72mm IIRC.
 
I really like the OMs. Before I got into RFs I wanted an OM2, but I had to settle for an OM10.

Still use the OM10 for when I don't want to risk the R2a, I love it's tinyness.

I can recommend the Vivitar 24/2 for wide if you can find one, I have one.
 
And the Tamron Adaptall's are unbeatable in terms of flexibility. The 90/2.5 macro, 80-200/2.8 are excellent. I wonder how hand-holdable the 500/8 mirror lens would be with the new image stabilized dslr bodies? If you can get two stops worth, then conceivably handholding it at 1/250 would be cool.
 
I bought an OM-1 recently as well. I now have the 24/2, 50/2 macro and 85/2 (single coated) for it. Lovely camera.

Here's a couple taken with the 85/2, first on Neopan 1600, second on Neopan 400.

very nice.

i'd like to get an 85 or 100 prime but they seem to be at the more expensive end of the om lenses.
this kit was supposed to stay cheap.

as it is...i think i just bought a 300 om lens.

david, you need to get yourself a more modern rf;)

i've owned an oly system before and loved it but this kit is not gonna replace the rf in my life.

Are you the one that snagged the 21mm/2.0 on Ebay a few days ago? Do you have any pictures?
