OM-2S issue

Hi all

Wonering if someone may be able to shed some light on a problem I have had over the weekend.

I very recently bought a OM-2s at a local camera market, the other day I put a roll of film through it, then last night I developed same.

It would appear that only every fourth picture exposed, then then there is a complete space of absolutely nothing for about three or four negative sizes then the next negative is exposed, six or seven negatives that exposed are really very good with no issues whatsoever which sort of muddies the water for me, as if all was blank or all just bad negs then I would suspect some other issues with the camera.

The known facts are the following.

Camera was in program mode
OM Winder 1 was in use, (this a single sequence winder only)
light all good.
OM Lens used
TMax 100 used.

For some reason I am thinking the winder may have been the issue.

I repeat that the six or seven negatives that came out are very, very good, it is just the three or four clear neg space in between that are the issue.

No clue why this would happen unless the winder was advancing the film to far or something but I would try a test roll without the OM Winder 1 if I were you

I agree with ChrisP. Also, in manual, one can feel the advance. Did you take up slack in film? Just curious.

I also totally agree with using camera without winder, have to cut out the variables to find the difference that makes the difference.

I feel the film was wound on okay, i always wind on whilst back is open to ensure that all is well.

I think I saw you at the market with your new OM2s - I was on the table in the corner helping Zoran. I'll agree with the suggestions above - I've had the same problem once with an OM winder. When you take it off you'll need to plug the hole in the base of the camera. If you're lucky the proper cap will be in a little slot inside the battery compartment of the winder. If it's not there, just use some black tape. If you don't cover the hole you'll get light leaks on the film. Good luck - cheers!

Good outcome

I had suspected that the winder was the problem.

This afternoon, I very quickly shot off a roll taking pics of my OM kit with flash, have just immediately developed and I can tell that all is well and that there are 37 negatives looking okay.

I will put through my scanner later on for a better look but clearly the issue I had with first roll has not repeated itself and the winder is the difference that makes the difference.

So, now I guess I have to ask the following:

Should I be able to use Winder 1 with the om-2s?....I would think yes.
Should I be able to use Winder 2 with the om-2s?.....I also would think yes.

Am wondering if it was a battery issue perhaps, it would appear to me that the winder was winding on faster than the camera,..... hmm maybe not....., is my logic flawed here?

I have five winders 1 & 2's , and to be honest I am not exactly sure which one caused the problem, I suspect it was a 1, have not ever had the same problem using my other five OM-2's & OM-2n's.

Hi Chris, yes it was me at the market, good to meet you even though it put me in the poor house buying the lens you made apparent.....🙂, all your fault of course...lol......clearly...

Try taking a roll without the winder. Eliminate as many variables as possible. Also, shoot in either manual or plain auto. If film was not winding properly, the end of the film would be blank, not blank frames, then pictures, more blanks, then pictures. Try without film, set camera to auto, put a piece of paper where the film would be (to reflect light back) and pick an f stop to give you a slow shutter speed, below 1/15th and listen for the distinct clicks of shutter opening then shutter closing and mirror returning. At least you know if shutter is opening or not. John

Also with the camera set on a manual shutter speed, open the back and watch what the shutter does, as you fire repeatedly using the winder. (no film)
