Howdy y'all,
I recently got a big ol' bag of OM gear (om1, om4, 50 f2 macro, 24 2.8, couple of zooms, finders, winder) and everything is in good condition, however the OM-4 shows no sign of functionality. The mirror is locked up, film advance isn't working.

I put a set of batteries in the camera that I found in the bag. The camera would let out a long beep but showed no other sign of working. The shutter speed dial doesn't go to bulb or 1/60.

Is this just a bad set of batteries?

Thanks!

Most likely. After installing known good batteries, you then need to rotate the shutter speed ring around the lens to its farthest point, towards the slow speeds if I remember correctly.

Press the small button at the bottom right of the lens mount, then turn the shutter speed dial to 60 and Bulb.

That got it! The regular speeds still aren't working, but the mechanical speeds are. Winding feels nice too.

I'll grab some new batteries and see how she works!

I have the same problem with an OM4 and an OM4Ti.

Haven't put in new batteries, but neither lens will rotate to 60 or B.

When looking at the front of the camera, there is a button to the bottom right corner of the lens mount that says B lock. If you press that, it should be able to turn into 1/60 or B

Also, I added a fresh set of batteries, and the camera works excellently!

Thanks for all the help

Great - thanks!

Fixed the OM4 with auto winder and lots of battery power. Back in business with its resident Vivitar 28-90/2.8-3.5 lens.

OM4Ti still jammed, but that may need a fresh battery - battery drain and all. I'm missing using it's Zuiko 21/2 lens.

Thanks again!

I don't think that the OM4Ti suffered from battery drain like some previous electronic OM cameras.

The OM-4Ti came with the newest circuit board. It was some of the original OM-4 bodies which had the battery drain problem.

My memory could be faulty, but I think I remember that the Ti models all had the new leak free circuit boards.

Even the newest OM-4ti kills batteries for me (3 months max)

I have to take them out of all my OM-3, OM-4, OM-2SP and OM-PC cameras between uses. the OM-1 and OM-2 seem to be fine. OM-10's are amazingly good on batteries.

By the way, Use only Silver Oxide batteries in your OM's. The cheap alkalines fade fast and, even new, don't have enough oomph (tech term) to hold the shutter open.

Shot a roll through my OM-4 and everything worked great. Pulled it out of the bag today and it won't even advance to the next frame (no film in camera)

Even on bulb or the 1/60, the advance is locked up. This is a new issue, anyone know the solution?
