I am replacing the self timer cover on an OM-4Ti. I know it needs a spot of glue to hold it in place. What glue do I use to attach a self timer cover?

Thanks in advance,
Jim

The original glue is still sold in Japan, and is called G17. It is a tough cement which is just a bit flexible. A good general-purpose glue would do the trick, just make sure that the surfaces you are cementing together are properly cleaned. I had the self timer cover pop off my OM4Ti a couple years ago, I glued it back on, and it is still tightly in place (knock on wood).

Thank you! It looks to be similar to Goop, a chloroprene adhesive like G17 that we have in the States. Did you apply the glue to the two prongs or smear around the rear surface?

I apply a little glue to both surfaces, let it sit long enough to haze over, then attach the parts together. It dries fairly quickly, but I usually allow the glue to cure overnight. The good thing about this glue is that it isn't permanent. Apply a few drops of lacquer thinner, let it soak in a little, then you can separate the parts for repair or replacement.

Brown rubber cement like Pliobond or Hobsco's "Goo" as sold in hobby stores (marketed by Walthers ((model train supplies))). John

Thank you gentlemen. I'll give that a try, John.

I am especially grateful for your help repairing these wonderful cameras, John. I like the OM-4Ti as much as my Leica M6 Classic. It's an incredible system.
