I am toying with the idea of getting a Sony A850 body and mounting my OM Zuikos onto it. I see the adapters for this have a glass element in it to enable infinity focus, which glass elements probably degrade lens performance. However, very few of my images have me focusing at anything close to infinity -- virtually all of my shots are focused at something within 25-30 feet. (For example, when I take landscape shots, I typically include some foreground element. My longest lens is a Tamron SP adaptall 80-200 f2.8, which I can get a Sony/Minolta mount for, so this isn't really an issue for my longer telephoto shots.)

So, my question is this: If I remove the glass element, will I be able to focus at something within 25-30 feet?

I don't believe it works this far. I have a Nikon adapter w/o glass and it's only a couple of meters. As I got it for close-up work, it suits me well, but it would not make sense as a general purpose solution.
