Who uses a camera grip 1 on their OM2S, 3 or 4. If you put this little piece of expensive plastic (they sell for around $100 if you can find them) on the camera earlier camera cases don't fit. I would have thought most people would have fitted the lower half of the case just to protect the camera.

Later cases (stamped YN on the base) were available moulded to accept a a camera with the grip but there does not seem to be many of them around. Also these cases seem to crack (surface of the leather) very easily. I have 3 of these which I bought new and are now unusable from surface cracking. They were called a Semi Hard Case 3.

Does anyone make a case these days to fit an OM body with a Grip 1 attached?

What I use on all my OMs is a luigi grip case made for a Leica M2. It needs a small amount of packing in the bottom of the case but the fit is near perfect.

Expensive solution I realise but it makes the camera a pleasure to hold.

well I disagree completely. I use just the bottom of the half case to extend the height a little bit so I can get all my fingers on such a short camera.

Keith, that case certainly looks nice.

Plus one about cases. The OM body is very small and for me the Luigi grip case gives it the necessary bulk to be able to hold it comfortably and safely. And seriously how long does it take to slip a camera out it's case to change the film?

I have small hands, so the body by itself suits me fine. As for time to change film, its too long. When you're working, and getting the shot matters, then every second counts and a lost second is a lost image and lost money.

If you need a grip, you might try the OM Winder 2. It gives a nice big grip and they're dirt cheap used.

Actually come to think of it I do have a dead winder somewhere in the cupboard ... one that works would be nice! 😀

Chris,

to me it sounds like two cameras or one with a fast load electronic loading system like an F5 or EOS-1 would better suited in situations where "get the shot no matter what" was the modus operandi.

I like using a half case. Especially on my nicer black OM's.

I bash things around a little too much to go without protection.

I had my OM-4T on the table at a restaurant and the waitress knocked it to the floor. She said, "that's ok", and picked it back up. Not even an, "oh I am sorry".

Thankfully is was a carpeted floor.

And the half-case was on.

And the lens hood too! 🙂
