OM find

As jealous as I may be, it is still nice to read such "found gold" stories. Gives me hope that I'll find a rich vein someday as well.

Yes, it was my first and only one, so one'll eventually come your way, too.

Plan on trying out the system this weekend.

If you're out in the 'burbs, I'd love to see that 21mm some day! That's a lens I've been considering.

Nothing to add other than: Cooool!!!

I'm glad that the OM troops are growing in size around here ;)

I need to find an M3 with a 35, 50 and 75 summilux at those sort of prices! It can happen, i know it can, i know it, i know it can.

Jesus, talk about luck

Jesus, talk about luck

The only opening I could find on the winder is the battery compartment, and it is empty.

The lot was 60 USD.

The 21mm alone I have seen for sale at over $300. As for the om-4, if it is a 4TI they also go for a fortune.

I also have the 50mm f3.5, That one is tack sharp with amazing bokeh. Recommended!

Well done, for ethical resons I would recommend you buy the old guy a bottle of champagne at least!

I'm firmly entrenched in the city. If there is ever another Chicago RF meeting, and I'm able to attend, I could bring it then.

MAny of these photos from my Impression Milton Keynes project are being shot with the Zuiko 28mm f/3.5

Sharp all the way through in my book:

Examples:

Click to enlarge. 28mm f/3.5 Zuiko at f/3.5 (Kodachrome 64)

Click to Enlarge - Zuiko 28mm f/3.5 at almost certainlyt f/8 (I tend to shoot sunny day KR64 in daylight at f/8 1/60th) universally. If not it was f/11 1/60th or f/8 1/125th

In my view. A cracker for just about most things. I prefer smaller lenses myself although this is only marginally smaller than the f/2.8 and somewhat smaller than the f/2.

After reading all of these OM threads here ( including one that I started several months ago, I thought that it would be fun to try one out. Having just bought a new camera, however, I didn't want to fork over any more dough. Lo and behold, I found a cache of OM stuff super cheap from an elderly gentleman who hasn't used them in 20 years.

So I now have the following:

OM 1, 2 and 4.

Zuiko lenses:
- 21 f/3.5
- 28 f/3.5
- 50 f/1.4
- 50 Macro f/3.5
- 75-150/4 zoom
- a Tamron 28-80/4-3.5 zoom

There was a bunch of other stuff, also: a couple of motor winders, a few focusing screens, lots of filters, a couple of flashes and various other things. He also kept, and included all of the camera manuals, as well as magazine articles about the OM4. The OM1 needs to have it's prism replaced, as it looks like the foam has melted through to the viewfinder ( I thought that the OM 1n was the one with this problem ). The 2 and 4 look pretty good, and all the lenses are in nice shape upon cursory inspection.

I've read some things about the 50mm 1.4, but not much about the other lenses, especially the 50 macro. Once I get batteries, I'm going to fool around with the 4 and 2, and I'll figure out what to do about the 1 later.

If anyone wants to add their opinions on the lenses ( what I can expect, etc... ) feel free.

Also, if anyone has 1 or 2 screw caps to cover the spot where the motor winder links up with the camera, let me know, as I don't plan on using it.

I owned many of those same models at one point. The OM-4 has a GREAT metering system--well worth the trouble to learn. I always liked the one-touch buttons for highlight and shadow metering, and the spot system.

I agree with others here who said the 21mm is the best of the lenses.

Enjoy yourself. That's quite a haul for $60; you'll be way ahead even if some of the things need some service. (Frankly, if the OM-2 and OM-4 bodies are basically working, I'm not sure whether it's worth sprucing up that OM-1; as noted, be sure you get it converted to modern batteries, though, if you do anything with it.)

An OM-1/1N with good CDS cells that has not been tampered with and has the correct battery in it will give perfectly accurate meter readings from at least BV6 (asa 100, 1/2 sec f5.6) thru BV15 (1/1000th f5.6). John
