OM, I've become a Zuikoholic!

But knowing the rate of technical advancement it should be here by now. The APS sensors have been available, cheaply for what, nearly 10 years now?
But the technology to put a rear element so close to the sensor with good results hasn't. I'm not an engineer, I don't know all the technology involved in the guts of a digital camera. For now, the smallest full-frame digital is the M9 - which is still noticeably larger than a film M. Presumably there's a reason for that.

My logical assumption is that if a XA-sized full-frame compact were feasible at any reasonable price point (or feasible at all), someone would have done it - because they would make a killing.

The "M" in "OM" was a tribute to the system's chief designer, Yoshihisa Maitani, who also led the creation of the Olympus Pen SLR system. Did the late Maitani-san design the D-OM? Considering that Maitani died 30 July 2009, probably not. So, yes, I think Olympus is trying to trade on the good will of its late chief designer because the company has no one who comes close to measuring up to Maitani.

photo time!

.... from the Zuiko 24mm f2.

View from our back yard. Somewhere down there you see ebay, Paypal, Google, Yahoo, etc. My favorite Zuiko, the 180/2.8.

Anybody else have Zuiko tele shots ?

Cheers,

Roland.

Also got in the mail a beautiful full frame OM-1 pre MD.
i think camthech will service this one 😎

yes Liquid-Sky, the above image was with the 24mmf2 (one I bought from a seller in France as it happens)- not wide open as there was a fair bit of light around, even though it was 7.30am.

Thanks ferider and kidpluto for injecting some sanity and photography back into this thread!

ferider,

You sure know how to use those telephotos, and in your hands there's definitely nothing lowly about the 200/5!

kidpluto,

I love the texture you've brought out in that koi pond.

And Tomalophicon,

I agree with Rover about getting that shot on the wall - beautiful! Is that a lens cap in the baby's hand?

This is with the 50mm f1.4 (shock, horror, under 110000).
I posted it on a couple of Leica forums (as a little joke to myself) but it is, in fact, Zuiko magic.

Here's a portrait of my niece when she was visiting last summer from Texas; taken with the Zuiko 50/1.4 wide open or thereabouts. It looks more like the 100, but I'm sure I wasn't using it that day. I was sitting right next to her on the deck having a beer as the sun was going down, the fire flys were coming out and the grill was heating up.

BTW, I couldn't help but notice the irony, so my caption for this one is: Live Simply - throw your smart phone away!

I have sinned also

I have sinned also

What started with a purchase of two OM-2N bodies, 2 x 50mm Zuiko lens and half a dozen 3rd party zoom lens has now turned into the following:

3 x OM-2N (1 Black) + 3 winders
2 x OM-2 (1 Black) + 2 winders

24mm 2.8
28mm 3.5
28mm 2.8
35mm 2.8
100mm 2.8
135mm 2.8
75-250mm f5
85-250mm f4
200mm f4
2 x 50mm 1.8
50mm 1.4
50mm 3.5

The above are all Zuiko lens.

Oh, yes, I also have to admit to a om-2s on the way.

Coming from a Nikon F100 & F5 background, I really do love this OM system, price, ease of use, availability, size, etc

It makes the 8 x 3rd party zoom lens all rather redundant at this stage.....
