OM, I've become a Zuikoholic!

Dont know if i've posted this yet, but here is a shot of my old OM kit.
Theres been some additions since the photo was taken, will post an update soon.
It goes without saying how amazing the OM system is. I use all of my cameras and have never had a single issue with them. It's a serious addiction.

I'm a zuiko-holic as well. I have two OM-1's , 2 50 1.8, 2 50 1.4 (one radioactive - probably best for black and white), 28mm f2 that I picked up for $80(!), 85 f2, 100 2.8, 35-70 3.6 and 75-150 zoom lenses. I also picked up a beater 180mm 2.8 that is ugly as hell but works fine. The ebay seller actually hand-delivered it to my house!

Which is why I've decided to sell my screw-mount system - I'm quite satisfied with the OM one.

does this extend to olympus rf's? i just got an extremely nice 35 sp camera from craigslist. :)

I think so! I'd love to have an SP some day. Sounds like the pinnacle of fixed lens RF's from everything I've read, but I've never actually seen one. I do have a DC in excellent shape that I plan on giving to my youngest niece, and a beautiful RC in bad need of new seals but otherwise flawless.

I may take on that job over the upcoming Holidays, or maybe just send it to John for a full CLA. I'm leaning towards John at this point. I've replaced seals on cameras three times in the past. Not my favorite job, nor am I particularly good at it either!

Either way, if the niece takes to photography like I suspect she will, I'll see that she steps up to the RC or maybe one of my OM's. I've learned that there is a genetic component to addictive disorders and I'm going to do my part to insure that she's in the proper environment to trigger any genetic predisposition towards Zuikoholicism! :D

I have a used Epson v500 scanner on the way that my brother-in-law is giving me and have several rolls of Arista 400 I've developed, ready to scan, so I hope to be able to post some shots from my OM's next week, good or bad. One of my reels was missing a ball bearing and I ruined a roll before I discovered it, but I did achieve success with the other five rolls. Maybe I'll have at least one keeper out of 180 exposures! Not likely, but I might get lucky!

Happy shooting everyone!

i took some identical shots with the 35 sp and an om1 with a mij 50f1.8. once i develop the film, i'll be able to post a comparison. both films are tmax400 and i'll develop them in the same batch to reduce variables.

Sounds good. I'm looking forward to that!

Got a friend who has a point and shoot Olympus - makes her a Zuikoholic but not as we know it! She got some fantastic results on her South America/Antactic trip earlier this year and even the panoramic and zoom features worked surprisingly well. But like all good things her camera is beginning to misbehave - blank frames, flash not always working. Not much chance of a camera repair, so, why not go SLR, says I?

I've got a couple of OM-10s so I thought we would have some gentle immersion into this new world. Fitted one for her with a mij 50mm f1.8 and lessons began. Loading film - nothing automatic about that in an OM-10, and apart from winding the practice film back into the cassette, all went well! Switching camera on and off - OK. Focussing using the standard type 1-13 screen went like a dream.

The difficulty came in Lesson 4 when the issue of depth of field arose from the harmless question 'what are all these numbers here for?' I thought it would be simple to explain because there is the 'depth of field' button on the lens. So after a quick verbal explanation, the instruction 'focus on this', a question 'are you in focus?', 'now push in the button and what do you notice about the sharpness of things in front of and behind of what you focussed on?'. The reply was 'I've got a black semi-circle'.

And try as I could to get her to adjust the angle through which she was looking through the viewfinder, the black semi-circle remained for her, either at top or bottom.
End of lesson - there is always tomorrow!
I did wonder how much things were affected because she wears glasses. But some things we just tend to take for granted don't we?

Next day with film loaded we spent over an hour in St Pancras Station (London). A very enjoyable time too - two friends, same camera, same lens, same film, taking pictures in the same venue at the same time. She said she had really enjoyed the experience and loved using the camera - it felt really nice to use. We set both cameras on f2 and let the speed look after itself - this was really a focussing experience for her, and an opportunity for me to see how the lens behaved at that aperture.

Neither of us has yet finished our film - both 36 exposure and I can't complain because she gave me mine!

She has looked into Rangefinderforum once or twice - I send her the odd email: have a look at this great photo! And she has dipped into 'Gallery Pics of the Week'. Refreshingly she wants to take film and strongly resists pressure to 'go digital'.

My OM-10 hasn't been returned! And I'm very happy for her to hang onto it. I think we have a true Zuikoholic in the making! I wonder when we will get onto neutral density filters?

"Gear Acquistion Syndrome" is a terrible disease, particularly if you live in Japan. On my walk-around through the used camera shops today I came across several good deals. The first was another 55/1.2 Zuiko lens for $210, a 100/2 for $420, and 21/3.5 for $350, 3 different 40/2 lenses from $400 to $600, and a black OM2 kit consisting of a 28/2, 50/1.4, and a 75-150 zoom. Also included was a power winder. The entire kit was $150.

But, I avoided the temptation (for now), kind of, I ended up getting an 85/1.2L FD lens for my old F1.

21/2:

I recently sold off all of my OM gear. I'm sad, but it allowed me to concentrate on other stuff. Does anyone want a free working winder, a databack, and a plain back? Just pay the price of shipping.

That looks like a Pen F to me.

Yes Will, you nailed it. Well, almost. It's a Pen FT. There were many Zuikos that day. OM, PEN, XA and OM Zuiko on Digital Rebel (my GF).

One more shot from that trip, again with 85/2 and containing one mystery camera.

There are a lot of good shots posted here! Nice work nksyoon, coelacanth, Dan, TWoK, shyoon and cmedin!

I just got a used Epson v500 and was able to scan the first three rolls I've developed shot with my OM1. After I got the OM I decided to go all the way and got a tank, changing bag, etc. These are Arista 400 developed in XTOL 1:1. The lens was the Zuiko 100/2.8

Nick: All good, I really like the last one. The shadow figures are superb!

Greg: You just showed what a wonderful lens the 100/2.8 is ... and how well you use it.

Geez I've just recently started using my OM-4T again as I'm taking it with me on a trip but here's a latest photo I took....
