OM, I've become a Zuikoholic!

I'm trying to figure out what 35mm film camera to take along to Japan in September with me alongside my medium format camera. Have been temped by bessa's, hexars, contax G2s..

It's funny though - I keep coming back to the OMs. About 3-4 years ago I got an m6 titanium on a trip to NY. On that same trip I brought along an om2n, and a few months after I returned to Australia I realized that the OM was doing everything the m6 was, and was the same size, but at 1/10th of the price.

Currently keeping an eye out for a really nice om2.
 
I think I may be starting to suffer from zuikoitis. Bought an OM4ti with 50 1.8 in April - just to see if ...... - and yes I do like it. This weekend I've added a black OM2, 28 2.8 and a 135 2.8. I can't say with any certainty that it will stop here - I think I need a black OM1😱

I'm not new to Olympus - I've used an E1 for the last 7 years. At least the OM gear is relatively inexpensive.

It's funny how you can get rid of a camera and realise later that it did everything you needed ... and then have to go out and buy another one! 😀

The black OM-2 I picked up with that complete set of gear I bought for $400.00 is an absolute delight. It has a smoother advance and shutter action than my recently CLA'd OM-1 and the metering seems to be better than my other silver OM-2 for some reason ... psychological, because it's black maybe? 😛

I'm absolutely in love with my OM gear all over again and all other cameras are currently being ignored ... incuding the new Pentax! 😱

The first roll of film I put through the new black OM-2 after I replaced the light seals and mirror foam was a real eye opener. I decide to try out the 50mm f3.5 Macro that came with the kit. Seriously, that is one of the sharpest, nicest 50mm lens I have ever used. Absolutely amazing!

Keith you're making my ebay buying finger itchy. Those 50mm f3.5 macros are supposed to be ridiculously sharp, seems like yours fits that description.

All I want is a late 50mm 1.4 and a 28mm f2 with a black om-2n and I'll be happy with my OM kit. Until I want a 21mm and a 24mm of course...
 
Great looking OM-2N ... just the right amount of wear ... and fitted with the fabulous 85mm f2 I note!

Sometimes I think I would buy an old Canon 5D and adapter just so I can use my Zuiko glass on a full frame digital body ... it's very temting but one DSLR in the cupboard is enough I think!
 
Ugh. I sent emails to two people about 2Ns tonight. They cost as much as the FED 2 I just picked up. I just can't ignore it. The trick will be thinking of it as a rangefinder with two lenses, a fast 50mm and a 28mm and not an SLR system camera. 😉

I've recently built that exact kit - picked up a black OM-2n pre-brassed and in fully working order, also bought a 28/2.8 and am watiing on a 50/1.4 and a light seal kit from the states.
 
I love my OMs. I love the OM1n as pure mechanical piece of work, but OM2n + 85/2 is perfect for quick candid/field portraits. I still think 85-90mm is where SLR shines (especially with OM's huge VF), and thinking of OM as a kind of extension to my M system that covers 28mm to 50mm.

All taken on my OM2n in the past month or two, the landscapes are Kodak Elite Chrome 100 (the moon is Elite Chrome 100 Extra Colour), colour street shot is cheap as chips Color Plus 200, and the others are Tri X.

I'm doing a whole load more OM2 work today, woop! 😀

Oh my, I've become a Zuikoholic! It took exactly two minutes. My first OM arrived today - a nice black OM-4 that apparently has not seem much use (yet) with a 50/1.8. I only keep wondering about the craftsmanship - how were they able to fit such an amazing and "wise" camera into such a small body.
The task now (apart to head out and shoot) is to find a pair of lenses to accompany the 50mm, perhaps some 28 and the 85/2.

And I can't recommend the 85/2 enough. Fantastic lens and using that with OM's huge VF is one thing Leica RF can't get anywhere close. My 85/2 is pretty much glued to OM2n.

It may be an SLR, but it sure does feel like a rangefinder when I'm using it. I suppose that's because of the size and the great viewfinder. Oh, and the shutter noise and vibration are much better than most SLR's I've tried too.

I had no idea this thread would survive so long, but I'm glad there are so many Olympus lovers here. I've learned quite a bit from you all, and now own two OM bodies and four Zuiko lenses, sold my DSLR's, and started developing my own film. As a matter of fact, I may have to find another refrigerator because there's not enough room for food!

But to get back to rangefinders, I found a really nice Olympus 35RD a couple of months ago. As soon as it comes back from John at Camtech, I can be a Zuikoholic and use a rangefinder at the same time!

I'll post a few pics when that happens. In the meanwhile, keep those cards and letters coming. I love this forum!
