OM, I've become a Zuikoholic!

Some beatiful images posted in this thread, glad to see so many enthusiastic users!

Oh well, since this thread is reaching record-breaking proportions, let me throw in a couple of further prints I made in the darkroom this week-end from negatives shot with my OM gear, and finally got around to scanning:

Kitty Cat taken with the 90/2 Macro with ring flash on Fomapan 100, all others with 250/2 on FP4+.
 
Speaking of grips, I've been using this clumsy set up the last few weeks.
A melding of RF's and OM's - the Bessa grip on my OM4. It works quite well and blends in better than it looks in the photo. The grip is a tiny bit big as the Bessa is larger than the OM4. A RF bigger than an SLR....



I got this OM4 for free after the previous owner said it had electrical problems. After bit of a clean up I discovered the camera works perfectly fine. It has served me well lately and is aging gracefully.

Went to buy about $10 worth of film today, and saw the box for an Olympus Zuiko 500mm f/8 sitting on a shelf behind the counter. I asked what was in the box, and I didn't get out of the store for $10, nosiree. Took my new Zuiko to the Dallas Zoo, despite the rain, and procured this picture of a pelican in a peaceful pose.

Some OOF trickery from the Zuiko 50mm f1.2 ... I've discovered I can actually get an adapter to use this lens on my D700. To deal with the longer registration distance of the Nikon body these adapters actually replace the mount of the Zuiko lens which is a simple procedure involving three screws and a minute or so of time.

The company is Leitax and he (David) has adapters for most of the Zuikos and is a big Zuiko fan himself. I haven't ordered one yet as it's 62 euros and I'm short of the readies until next week but I did email him and ask him if the registration problem with the Nikon body is overcome with his adpater allowing infinity focus. Someone told me the other day in another thread that the Zuikos will only focus to one meter and are only any real use for macro work which he says is not the case with this adapter and there are sample images on the site to verify this ... I looked!

The same adapter that fits the 50mm f1.2 will aso fit the 300mm f4 that I came by recently so this really expands the possibilities with my D700 ... provided I don't mind stop down metering of course which doesn't bother me to be honest!

Being able to use Zuiko glass on a full frame digital Nikon is a huge bonus IMO because I've never really been interested in the Canon 5D option ... I'm just not a Canon fan! I'll believe this capability when it gets here of course because I've been lied to before! 😛

I'll post a report when I get it in a week or so ... with sample images.

The 50mm f1.2 is a very special lens IMO ... it took me a while to track down the example I have and it came with a nice story attached:

The guy I got it off in the US bought it brand new back whenever to photograph his newly born daughter in hospital ... it was the first use the lens ever had. Just before he sold it to me he used for the very last time ... which was to photograph her wedding!

The lens was barely used between these two occasions apparently and came in it's original packaging with all the documentation ... it wasn't cheap but I do cherish it and have no regrets over the $500.00 US it cost me. 🙂

I'd like to have your opinion on my next purchase.
I'm going to buy three lenses for my OM2: a Zuiko 28/2,8, Zuiko 100/2,8 and Zuiko 200/4 for the total amount of € 180,00.
I think it's a good deal. Am I wrong?

The lens kind of giggles a bit while in the Canon, but it's still very much usable. I have a 28mm, but that's not going to be any sort of wide at all on a 40d. A 21mm might be a bit wider... but that crop factor... ugh.

I'm OK with the crop factor for my 9-5 photography though.
 
I ordered a Zuiko 28mm/3.5 for the OM-1. Not yet received. Does anyone use the lens? Would you recommend it as a good, inexpensive wide angle lens? Thx.
 
Thank you Danonroute66. No second thoughts. Just wanted to know what experiences anyone had with the lens, good, bad or indifferent. I didn't pay a lot for the lens so I'm not too worried about it. Thanks for the feedback.

My experience with it has been excellent. Sharp wide open, excellent after that. I haven't done a scientific analysis of it, though. Just normal use. Haven't got a scanner, so I can't post results.
Too bad it is f3.5 (ok, there's the 2.8), if it had wider aperture I would find myself using it more.

As Dan said, if it has been treated well, it should be excellent. Gary Reese tested a unit that was dropped and had some reduced performance, something about decentered elements.
